This position (108808) is located in the Office of Forestry Headquarters, Aviation Division, Baton Rouge, LA, in East Baton Rouge Parish.
This is a professional ASEL firefighting career.

- Aviation experience in one or a combination of the following program areas: firefighting, fire control, law enforcement, military, vegetation disease and control, aerial survey, aerial photography, airport inspection, or wildlife management

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Aircraft Pilot 1- Possession of a current Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) commercial pilot
license with instrument rating or Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) license followed
by 500 hours of recorded flight time.
Aircraft Pilot 2 - Possession of a current Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) commercial pilot
license with instrument rating or Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) license followed
by 750 hours of recorded flight time.
The starting salary for an Aircraft Pilot 1 is $61,422.00 annually.

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Possession of a current Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) commercial pilot license with instrument rating or Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) license followed by 500 hours of recorded flight time.
Ability to check out on the model and types of aircraft to be flown.
Possession of a valid FAA medical certificate.
Possession of appropriate ratings, waivers and/or certificates that may be required by the position to which the appointment is being made.
Must be willing to carry and use a firearm if the flight assignment should require it.
NOTE:
Any college hours or degree must be from an accredited college or university.
Job Concepts
Function of Work:
To pilot an aircraft to transport cargo, passengers and to train in the performance of agency program related aerial activities.
Level of Work:
Aircraft Pilot 1 - Entry.
Aircraft Pilot 2 - Experienced.
Supervision Received:
General from a higher ranking pilot or other agency supervisors.
Supervision Exercised:
Aircraft Pilot 1 - None.
Aircraft Pilot 2 - May exercise functional supervision over agency program personnel; may assist in providing on-the-job training to entry level pilots.
Location of Work:
May be used by all state agencies.
Job Distinctions:
Aircraft Pilot 1 - Differs from higher level Aircraft Pilots by serving as a trainee in agency aerial
program activities or by participation in training to obtain ratings in addition to
the FAA commercial airplane pilot's license.
Aircraft Pilot 2 - Differs from Aircraft Pilot 1 by responsibility for independent performance of
agency aerial program activities. Differs from Aircraft Chief Pilot by lack of
responsibility for administering the aviation program for an agency with less
than five aircraft or lack of responsibility for directing regional flight operations for four or more aircraft within an agency-wide air fleet.

Responsible for detection and survey flights pertaining to insect and disease outbreaks. This involves flying a preset grid in order that a forester or other observer may make air observations for the purpose of pinpointing damaged forest areas on aerial maps.

- Sit over a long period of time while on wildfire patrols

- A minimum of three takeoffs and landings during visual daylight hours shall be made within each 90 consecutive days of employment.
- A minimum of three takeoffs and landings during visual night hours shall be made to a full-stop within each 90 consecutive days of employment.
- A minimum of six instrument approaches, holding procedures and tasks, intercepting and tracking courses shall be completed within each 6 months of employment. This may be simulated or actual. Another LDAF pilot may be a safety pilot.
