Overview
We are looking for the ideal Farm Manager to help us to design and build an off-grid, self-contained farm focused on being a family retreat with additional accommodation for many extended family & friends. Then manage it and be self-sufficient within 1 year after completion, receiving relocation assistance and a small subsistence salary until then. You can keep the majority of the farm profits which will be substantial due to significantly reduced expenses like existing equipment and no property tax, mortgage or charge for water or sewer.
We currently have free housing, a new barn, 2400 sq ft greenhouse, chicken coop, goat pen, water and power. See pictures. We want this to be a full-feature farm including a wide variety of specified crops & livestock producing goods year-round.
Responsibilities
- Work with our construction manager and development engineers on the design and development.
- Manage every aspect of the farm, including financial budgeting, reserves, labor & support workers, equipment, systems, soil, water, power, septic, crops, livestock, harvesting, preserving, packaging, marketing, customer service, performance record keeping, quality assurance, upkeep and improvement projects.
- Accommodate family members & friends who may temporarily stay at the farm.
- Continuously and urgently work toward process improvement, potentially leveraging programs such as the WSU Agriculture Program in Vancouver to optimize every aspect of farm operation.
Qualifications
We are looking for a knowledgeable, responsible, dependable, flexible, team-oriented, honest, articulate, hard-working, “can-do” farm manager.
The ideal candidate would have:
- U.S. Citizenship.
- A bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field.
- Accreditation as a Farm Manager by an organization such as ASFMRA.
- Willingness to consider a long-term relationship.
- Experience in all aspects described above including organic qualification, greenhouse design, aquaponics, personnel management, equipment, finance, record keeping, livestock, agronomy, permaculture, processing, packaging, preserving, marketing and quality assurance.
- Familiarity with farm management software and Microsoft® programs, E-mail, Word, Excel.
