Job Description Summary
The Agriculture Plant Science department within the Business Education division is seeking a full-time Tenure Track faculty position. The primary teaching load will be comprised of courses in Agriculture Plant Science such as Introduction to Soil Science, Introduction to Plant Science, Plant Propagation and Production, Introduction to Viticulture, Sustainable Agriculture, and Principles of Irrigation. This position requires extensive outreach and work with advisory committees, as well as assessment and program review, and working with lab technicians and part-time faculty. This position's primary location will be the Paso Robles North County Campus.
Teaching responsibilities:
Teaching begins with good preparation including choosing appropriate textbooks, writing a clear syllabus that outlines classroom expectations and content to be covered, and creating a plan for content delivery. Part of teaching responsibilities also include determining the best way to assess student learning and student learning outcomes, and assigning grades accordingly. It also includes communicating with your students throughout the semester, being available during office hours, and identifying college services available for students, as appropriate. Due to changes in delivery, all teachers are expected to become online teaching certified.

Essential Functions & Qualifications
Required:
-Master's in agriculture, agriculture science, education with a specialization in agriculture or other agricultural area (including: agricultural business, agricultural engineering, agricultural mechanics, Agriculture agronomy, animal science, enology, environmental (ornamental) horticulture, equine science, forestry, natural resources, Plant Science, pomology, soil science, viticulture or other agriculture science) from an accredited institution;
OR
-The equivalent. (Candidates applying on the basis of equivalency must submit all materials requested for an equivalency judgment. OR
-A valid Community College credential in the discipline (If received prior to 1990, as the credential is no longer being issued).
Additional Requirement:
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Desirable:
  • Teaching experience in the discipline, community college level preferred;
  • Awareness of the philosophy and objectives of California Community Colleges;
  • Professional industry experience;
  • Community college teaching experience.

Interview Process Information
Selected applicants will be invited to give a teaching demonstration, and an interview on Tuesday, March 5, 2023.
First Interviews will be held in person. Applicants in need of an accommodation should contact Human Resources at In person interviews are preferred and, in the interest of equity, candidates will be reimbursed up to $500 toward their travel expenses if they interview on campus.
Second interviews will be held via Zoom on Friday, March 8, 2023.
The selected applicant will begin their full-time teaching assignment in the Fall semester of the 2024-2025 school year, which begins on Tuesday, August 6, 2024.

A faculty member who is employed for less than 40% of the assigned time of a full-time faculty member is not eligible to participate in or to receive a District contribution toward the medical insurance benefit program.
The District fringe benefit contribution can be found on the Insurance/Benefits website:
All regular full-time faculty members and full-time temporary faculty members are required to enroll in at least the minimum medical coverage. Every new regular full-time faculty member/full-time temporary faculty member must enroll when they are first eligible, which is the first of the month following their date of hire.
A part-time faculty member who is eligible, but does not wish to participate in the District's medical insurance benefit program must complete a Declination of Coverage form.
A faculty member whose monthly cost for insurance exceeds the District's contribution is required to pay the additional cost by payroll deduction.
