JOB SUMMARY:
Under general guidance, this position involves Agile coaching for multiple teams simultaneously to achieve project goals. The position also includes training Agile Coaches at the team, program, management, and leadership levels to enable the continued success of the company's Agile transformation by contributing to various global transformation workstreams.
This position requires collaboration with stakeholders to drive agile maturity while making quantifiable progress that results in higher-performing teams and better business outcomes across a matrixed global organization.
The Agile Coach is responsible for helping agile teams continuously reflect and improve, make their roles more effective, and improve predictability, collaboration, and quality practices. In addition, the Agile Coach will provide guidance and mentorship to other Agile Coaches across the North American organization, play an important and leading role in the Agile Coach community, and significantly shape and develop global Agile transformation strategies.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: List the essential duties and responsibilities of the position, in order of importance and/or amount of time spent.
  • Facilitate and lead 2-3 simultaneous Scrum/Agile teams, teams of teams, and the like, as the Agile Coach, in all Agile ceremonies up to and including multi-sprint "big room" planning through the full duration of the project(s) in order to achieve project goals and objectives; this will be done by utilizing and teaching Agile values and best practices.
  • Provide thought leadership on Agile best practices, at scale, for assigned product lines.
  • Serve the Product Owner Teams, Scrum/Agile teams, Functional Managers and the organization by guiding them on how to use the Karl Storz Agile processes.
  • Demonstrate in-depth understanding of Agile processes, manage, and execute backlog refinement sessions with Scrum/Agile teams, and provide recommendations based on metrics evaluated.
  • Leverage their own strong knowledge of Agile Transformations and background in Agile frameworks and methodologies like SAFe/LeSS/DA
  • Create and moderate an active forum/community of practice of Agile Coaches and mentor existing and new Agile Coaches
  • Work with the Product Owners for backlog grooming including prioritization.
  • Derive prioritization of features/capabilities with Product Management to ensure higher priority items are identified and implemented first.
  • Perform continual assessment of the maturity of the Scrum/Agile team and provide coaching and insight in support of greater maturity.
  • Be committed to continuous process improvements including active facilitation of reviews and retrospectives and incorporation of lessons learned for future sprints
  • Contribute and significantly shape and develop the KARL STORZ global Agile Transformation strategies.
  • Lead communities of practice to enable craftsmanship for Product Owners, Development Engineers, Quality, and Agile Program Managers.
  • Contribute to the development of the Karl Storz Agile development methodology, through alignment with product and technology stakeholders
  • Deliver needed Agile training to align teams around a common language and methodology for Karl Storz. Teach and encourage techniques that increase collaboration, predictability, and transparency. Participate in creation of Agile coaching strategy, creating a common approach that would help the teams' delivery with improved effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Partner with Product and Engineering leaders from assigned Product Lines to enable them as impediment removers for the teams.
  • Be the influencer to help transform Karl Storz into a self-learning and continuously improving organization.
  • Support the creation of a culture that empowers self-organizing teams, with a focus on accountability, adaptability, quality, and speed to market. Provide team members with feedback and means of improvement and answering questions.
  • Maintain an awareness of what is happening within the Agile community both internally and externally and, where appropriate, experiment with introducing new practices to the organization
  • Support teams with Agile tool use with their working knowledge of one or more Agile tools such as JIRA, Mural or equivalent. Stay current with industry best practices with respect to Agile tools and metrics.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITES: List other important functions that are secondary duties but may be time consuming.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Will spend part of their time as a member of continuous improvement teams undertaking projects and seeking ways to improve the quality of KSI's products and services
  • Regular attendance is an essential job function.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES: What does a person in this position need to be able to do?
  • Strong background in software and hardware development ideal.
  • Strong knowledge and experience in Agile Development/SAFE principles, Agile Coaching and Agile transformation leadership.
  • Must possess a high level of "people skills" regarding mentoring, coaching and communicating to the team.
  • Must be an extremely organized self-starter who gets things done when promised.
  • Must have excellent written and oral communications and work effectively with employees at all levels in the organization
  • Industry certification reflecting Agile/Lean competencies (e.g., ICP-ACC or CEC, CSM, PMI-ACP)
  • Personable, self-aware, confident yet humble team player who embodies the concept of servant leadership
  • Excellent oral and written communication skill.
  • Detail oriented but able to see the big picture too.
  • Knowledge of medical device quality system regulations and standards (e.g., U.S. FDA Quality System Regulation 21CFR Part 820, ISO13485, ISO9001) ideal.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: What is the usual educational background and work experience of an individual qualified to perform this job?
  • BS or MS in Computer Science, Information Systems, Project Management, or a related discipline with relevant work experience.
  • 5-7 years of demonstrated Agile Coaching or agile transformation experience, at various levels including leadership.
  • Certified Scrum Master or equivalent
  • Previous medical experience is also desirable.
