Position Information
Agriculture Technician
Duty/Responsibility:
Tasks involved in fulfilling duty/responsibility include but not limited to: (a) Seed preparation (germination test, weighing, counting and packaging); (b) Cleaning and preparing planter and tractor; (c) Field layout and planting trials; (d) Data collection from standing crops; (e) Weed management (spraying, hand pulling, hoeing, etc.); (f) Disease and insect management (spraying); (g) Mowing and tilling, experimental plots and processing; (h) Harvesting plots and collecting and processing samples; (i) Data entry; (j) Operating, repairing and maintaining all machineries and lab equipment including but not limited to tractor, planter, combines, chemical sprayer, forklift, state fleet, mower, tiller, dockage testers, seed counters, clippers, protein machine, oil machine, etc.; (k) Mowing grass, trimming building edges, tilling, weeding. (l) cleaning of laboratory spaces.
The candidate is expected to perform duties under general guidelines provided by the project leader but require the use of the incumbent's judgement for the greatest efficiency and compliance with the safety policy of NDSU.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Equivalent of 3 years agriculture/farming experience and/or 1 year of Ag research experience.
• Basic knowledge of computers.
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft word, excel, and powerpoint
• Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position.
• A valid ND driver's license or the ability to obtain one.
Preferred Qualifications:
• A.S. degree or B.S. degree in Ag related field
• Farm background with farming experience.
• Working knowledge of small plot research.
• Experience with farm machinery operation, maintenance, and repair.
• Have or able to obtain ND Commercial Pesticide Applicator License.
• Familiar with ND crops.
Physical Requirements:
Operate and transport trucks, trailers, plot sprayers, and combine harvesters. Physically able to perform field and laboratory research kneeling and lifting heavy goods and items up to 50 lbs. The position requires occasionally working early in the morning, late in the evening, or on weekends.
Salary: $30,000 - Commensurate with experience
