Job Title: Lyricism 101 Instructor
Department: Extended Day Grant/Middle School
Reports to: Program Manager
Location: Hackett Middle School, North Albany Middle School
Salary: $16 per hour
Schedule: Part-time position, 3 hours per day, 2 days per week.
(This is a grant-funded position that operates only from October 10, 2023, to May 23, 2024)
Overview of Your Role
The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Capital Area is seeking a passionate and skilled Lyricism Instructor to join our team. This role is pivotal in our efforts to empower and inspire young individuals through the art of lyricism and creative expression. The Lyricism Instructor will design, teach, and facilitate lessons that encourage participants to explore their voices, share their stories, and develop their skills in writing and performing lyrics.
KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):
- Develop and implement a dynamic lyricism curriculum that aligns with the organization's goals and values.
- Plan and lead engaging lyricism classes that cater to different skill levels and encourage participants to explore their creativity.
- Teach the fundamentals of lyric writing, rhyme schemes, storytelling, rhythm, and performance techniques.
- Provide guidance and feedback to participants, helping them refine their lyrical skills and find their unique voices.
- Create a supportive and inclusive environment where participants feel confident expressing themselves through words.
- Collaborate with other program staff to integrate lyricism activities with other program components.
- Organize and coordinate opportunities for participants to showcase their lyrics and performances.
- Foster a sense of teamwork, respect, and collaboration among participants.
- Incorporate elements of music appreciation and the cultural significance of lyricism in various genres.
- Ensure a safe and respectful environment for participants to share their thoughts and ideas.
- Uphold the organization's policies and procedures, particularly those related to child safety and welfare.
- Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities as required.
CREDENTIALS, SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
- Previous experience as a lyricist, songwriter, spoken word artist, or related field.
- High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
- Possession of a valid photo ID
- Reliable transportation (Multiple Locations)
- One year of direct experience working with youth and teens
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Group leadership skills, including an understanding of group dynamics.
- Ability to engage and connect with youth through the art of words.
Creativity and the ability to develop engaging and interactive lesson plans.
