As Culinary Educator, you will play an essential role in the day-to-day operational success of our kids cooking programs. You will serve as an engaging teacher and role model, teaching key skills and inspiring kids to explore culinary techniques, flavors and cuisines. We’re looking for a dependable and organized individual with strong teaching skills and industry experience who is ready to join a small (but mighty) team.

For this role we are specifically looking for a teacher to start immediately with availability on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons between the hours 2-6pm April-June.

This position has the opportunity to work on weekends, evenings and potentially other afternoons for additional hours and could continue into a more full time role with summer camp if desired.

This is an excellent role for child care professionals and educators looking to expand into the culinary world. Due to the immediate nature of this need, we are looking for a candidate that has experience working with preschool and or lower elementary school students. Culinary experience is a plus, but a passion for cooking is sufficient without formal experience.

Responsibilities:

This role includes leading daily After School classes (at least 3 days per week) at various partners throughout San Francisco as well as leading educational and/or culinary enrichment programs on site at our studio in Ghirardelli Square occasionally.

Afterschool Programs:

• Teach students (age 3-8) the basics of food preparation, kitchen safety, and nutrition when cooking, according to the highlighted objectives of each lesson. (Curriculum from Culinary Artistas).
• Assist in research and preparation for each lesson. Recipes are provided by Culinary Artistas.
• Assign kitchen tasks to each student that allows them to gain hands-on practice and improve cooking skills.
• Demonstrate for students, as well as supervise students in the kitchen, encouraging age-appropriate technique, safety, and gently correcting as needed.
• Facilitate class discussions on each cooking or food safety message, allowing students to brainstorm how they might put new skills into action and bring their cooking into their homes.
• Engage students with a variety of learning tools including hands-on, auditory, and visual techniques.

On-Site Programming:

• Lead cooking, art, and/or education related programs at our culinary studio in Ghirardelli Square during school closure days.
• Option to assist with private events and birthday parties on evenings and weekends

OPTIONAL: Summer Camp: (Beginning in June)

• Assist with cooking and/or education related programs for our Summer Camps Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM-3:30 PM for kids ages 3-10. You will assist in set-up, prep, clean-up and of guiding campers through the day’s art and cooking activities. You will be engaging with the campers throughout the day at activity centers and in the kitchen to ensure a delightful experience for all. This job is intended for those interested in working with food, health, nutrition, as well as early childhood and elementary educators during the Summer.

Skills/Experience Required:

• Experience working with children between the ages of 3-10 years old in a must. Preferably in a school setting, but we are open to hearing form candidates with commensurate experience.
• We are interested in hearing from early child educators and teachers. Professional culinary training or experience working in the food industry is a plus, but not required. We also welcome qualified chefs, instructors and students from culinary schools, personal chefs, teachers, retired food service professionals, and kitchen enthusiasts that are self-taught and have experience working with children.
• Comfortable speaking in front of groups (average class size is 12 participants).
• Comfortable using Google office suite (docs, sheets, slides, and calendar)
• Ability to travel to class locations throughout San Francisco. Vehicle owner is a plus.
• Must complete a Live Scan (will be reimbursed) and TB risk assessment test. Current First Aid/CPR certificate a plus. Must be vaccinated and boosted for COVID-19. Must complete CA mandated child abuse reporter training. These items can be completed upon hire

Time Commitment:

• Daytime availability
• Must be available between 2-6pm Tuesday-Thursday ( at least 3 days per week) when classes are taking place. (Class times vary in this window). Monday/ Friday availabilitya. plus.
• Between 6-12 hrs/week (based on your class schedule preference). More hours available if desired.
• Position available to shift to 35 hours/ week + June-September.

Pay: Starting at $25- $30 per hour, depending on experience.
