Lilly’s Biotechnology Discovery Research (BioTDR) organization has a track record for delivering novel biotherapeutic medicines to advance into clinical research in key areas of unmet medical need including diabetes, oncology, immunology, neuroscience, and others.
This position is within the Lead Optimization Team of BioTDR organization. We are responsible for generating, characterizing, and optimizing biotherapeutics from lead generation to lead optimization and preclinical development. We are searching for a highly motivated and creative research scientist with a PhD degree in biochemistry, protein chemistry or related field to join a talented multidisciplinary team. This position provides an outstanding opportunity to transform ideas to clinical candidates.
 

Responsibilities

  • Purifying proteins and antibodies and generation of protein/antibody conjugates

  • Optimization of bioconjugation across modalities (e.g. conjugation of small molecules, peptides, oligonucleotides to protein and antibodies)

  • Optimization of bioconjugate delivery (e.g. increasing potency, efficacy, and tissue selectivity)

  • Characterizing protein and conjugate structure, stability, and solution properties using various biochemical and biophysical approaches

  • Embrace and celebrate diversity by using a relevant and unique background and set of experiences to provide new ideas to deliver innovative solutions drugging novel targets. Strong communication (oral and written), organizational, and leadership skills are expected.

  • Bring new and useful concepts, methods, and ideas for how research can be improved and share these to make our group better.

Basic Qualifications

  • PhD in biochemistry, protein chemistry, or related field.

OR

  • MS in related field and 5+ years of relevant industrial experience.

Additional Skills and Preferences

  • Hands-on experience in protein purification, bioconjugation, and characterization of proteins and conjugates in academic or industrial settings.

  • Strong core proficiency in protein biochemistry, knowledge of protein structure-function relationship, and experience in biochemical analyses are required.

  • Demonstrated self-initiative and appropriate risk-taking behaviors.

  • Exceptional problem solving and decision-making skills.

  • Must be able to work productively and collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team environment.

  • Ability to prioritize multiple activities and thrive in a setting that requires quick movement between scientific challenges and comfort with ambiguity.

  • An active scientific curiosity and interest for complementary disciplines within the pharmaceutical industry.

  • Effective oral and written communication skills
