Colby Community College is located in northwest Kansas, approximately 50 miles from the Nebraska and Colorado borders. From a humble beginning of 99 students in 1964, CCC now serves more than 2,100 students annually.
In addition to a 57-acre main campus, CCC has a 60-acre farm used as a hands-on laboratory and training facility. The college also accommodates hundreds of off-campus students through face-to-face, online, and hybrid courses.
A number of studies conclude CCC is a solid educational investment. Colby has a strong history of student performance, including the highest graduation rate among all Kansas community colleges.
Job Description
Colby Community College is accepting applications for a full-time Assistant Director of Adult Education in the Hays, Kansas area. This is a 12-month position that reports to the Director of Adult Education and is renewable upon awarding of the department's grant. The successful candidate will assist in program development and coordinate the direct planning and promotion of Adult Education at the satellite location in Hays.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • The Assistant Director plans and provides admissions intake, registration, advising, testing, and suggested referrals during orientation;
  • Develops new partnerships with business and industry supporting the IET initiative in the state;
  • Coordinate the development, implementation, evaluation, and supervision of program goals, objectives, and activities;
  • Complete new student orientation and document student progress;
  • Review data-based reports and correspondence;
  • Develop and present materials used for student recruitment through businesses, agencies, local schools and the community;
  • Communicate with area schools to assist in transferring dropout students into the GED program;
  • Attend partner/agency meetings;
  • Participate and assist in developing and monitoring program budgets;
  • Assist in writing proposals and monitoring grants;
  • Complete all required professional development activities;
  • Work independently in the Hays area, serving students in acquiring education (GED, postsecondary, vocational, financial literacy, life skills) and entering employment;
  • Travel within a 19-county area to assist in program productivity as well as in and out of state for meetings and trainings;
  • Perform all other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor.

INSTRUCTOR ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Complete orientation;
  • Maintain and submit attendance reports weekly;
  • Administer TABE assessments to determine individual progress;
  • Provide instruction in basic education geared toward the adult learner;
  • Plan lessons and curriculum tied to College and Career Standards in the areas of reading, science, social studies and mathematics;
  • Provide technology instruction appropriate to learner needs;
  • Teach career and life skill classes, provide career guidance, resume and interview assistance;
  • Perform all other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor;
  • Assist in supervising AE instructors.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of internal and external customer service principles and practices;
  • Knowledge of principles and methods for promotion programs and services;
  • Knowledge of project management principles;
  • Knowledge and application of various instructional methodologies;
  • Skill in effective communication (both written and oral) ;
  • Skill in public speaking and presenting;
  • Skill in budget/resource management;
  • Ability to apply analytical and critical thinking skills;
  • Proficient in spreadsheets and analyzing data.

SALARY
$42,500-$46,500, depending on credentials and experience.
Flexible benefits program that includes options for single and family health and dental coverage, life insurance, reimbursement accounts, sick leave and vacation leave allowances. Participation in the state retirement program is required.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required, master's degree preferred;
  • Experience working with Business and Industry;
  • Experience working with high-risk populations;
  • Experience assisting learners with continuing education and job placement.
