Job Description
The Hampden County Sheriff’s Office is seeking a highly motivated and energetic Adult Basic Education Teacher to teach our justice-involved population. The per-diem Adult Basic Education Teacher is responsible for providing group instruction for inmate students participating in the education program in accordance with prescribed policies and procedures. Education program instruction will include teaching basic reading and writing skills to low-level ABE students following the guidelines set forth in the educational programming.

Work Schedule: Monday, Wednesday and Friday; 8 AM – Noon or 12:30pm – 4:30pm
Flexibility of hours based upon operational requirements
Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in a related field with two (2) or more years of experience as a classroom teacher required; experience in adult basic education or correctional education program preferred. Bilingual skills are desirable (English/Spanish). Must possess a primary, secondary or ABE teacher license from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts or be working toward such certification. Familiarity with the College and Career readiness Standard for Adult Education. Experience teaching literacy skills using contextualized curriculum relevant to the student’s experience and background.
