The MEC Admissions Coach reports to the Associate Dean of Student Success and will provide advising and coaching to students through appointments and group sessions. The Admissions Coach will support educating students, faculty members and staff on issues related to the preparation and application process for NOVA’s health sciences and nursing programs. The Admission Coach will also provide administrative support for the processing and evaluation of all health sciences and nursing program applications and the upkeep of the electronic application as well as the data reporting as it relates to each HSN program.
Duties and Tasks:
- Engage in direct interactions, relationship building, and deliver programming in support of NOVA students needing holistic social, emotional, and academic support.
- Keep accurate, up to date notes with the appropriate student tracking software.
- Facilitate workshops for faculty members, staff, students, and prospective students on a variety health sciences and nursing programs admission.
- Meet regularly with colleagues on the changes to curriculum and admission requirements.
- Actively support policy and process improvement in collaboration with central student services.
- Collect data, track outcomes, and produce reports regarding admission trends.
- Provide robust and thorough academic advising to the general student population.
- Participate in walk-in advising.
- Serve as a liaison to advising teams.
- Participate in College task forces, pathway councils, leadership committees, and working groups.
- Participates in regular professional development as required and/or relevant to the assigned work.
- Responsible for coordinating all new student orientation activities such as, course registration, academic advising, facilitate students establishing connection with other new students, help prepare new students for the academic rigor of the nursing program and other health sciences programs, acquaint new students with campus resources.

- Knowledge of health care program application processes and policies, as well as expert knowledge of program requirements.
- Knowledge of database management, data collection, and software applications.
- Knowledge of, and skill in, computer usage including Microsoft Office, e-mail, student information systems, CANVAS, ticket tracking software, Preceptive Content, social media, and use of the Internet to complete research.
- Knowledge of relevant federal, state, VCCS, and college policies and regulations including the Family Education Rights Privacy Act (FERPA), Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), Title IX, and VAWA/SaVE, and Clery legislation.
- Ability to understand, disseminate, interpret, and communicate college policies and regulations using approved and accepted processes and practices.
- Ability to utilize interpersonal and problem-solving skills to collaborate and negotiate with students, faculty, staff, parents, members of the community and college representatives.
