Job description

Overview
The Psychiatry Administrator is responsible for the supervision and coordination on a daily basis of the various programs of the Department to insure that high quality treatment programs are provided to our patients in accord with the regulatory agencies.
Responsibilities

  • Responsible to coordinate the day to day operation of the various units of the Department of Psychiatry to insure that high quality of patient care is provided.
  • Ensures that the programs operate in compliance with the standards of the regulatory agencies which include Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals, NYS Office Mental Health, NYS Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse, NYS Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities, NYC Department of Health and Mental Health, Drug Enforcement Agency and SAMSHA.
  • Develops strategies in conjunction with Unit Chief's and Discipline Heads to insure the growth of the department services.
  • Ensures compliance with facility standards as articulated in the By-Laws, the Administrative Policy Manual, and Quality Assurance guidelines.
  • Maintains a good working relationship with other community services referral agencies to insure strong linkages.
  • Coordinates the activities of the department to recruit, hire, supervise and discipline staff members in the various units. Insure that the requirements for orientation, in service education, and counseling of staff members are met.
  • Coordinates the Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement activities of the department to insure that we are in full compliance.
  • Participates in incident investigation and management and receive and investigate complaints of patients and others directly and through the NYS Quality of Care Commission and the various state and city agencies.
  • Ensures that preparation is ongoing for certification visits and that the corrective action strategies are monitored and effective.
  • Provides grant coordination and development in collaboration with fiscal department.
  • In collaboration with fiscal department staff members work to maximize the reimbursement procedures as well as the payment of our various vendors.
  • Participates in the facility disaster committee and provide crisis management to the department where and when needed. Provide 24 hour crisis and resource availability.
  • Provides direct supervision of Unit Chief's and Discipline Heads.
  • Serves on hospital committees such as JCAHO leadership, Quality Council, Quality of Care Committee and Disaster Committee representing the Department.
  • Ensures that the Department and Facility are well represented in the various mental health and substance advisory committees in the borough such as Brooklyn Mental Health Council, and the Brooklyn Retardation Committee and Brooklyn Alcoholism Committee.
  • Serves as Administrator on Call and as on call for the Bio- Ethics Committee as assigned.
  • Coordinates the activities of the administrative office of the department. Insure strong collaboration with other departments such as Building Services, Engineering, Safety and Security etc.
  • Coordinates the agenda for the Cabinet of the Department and insure that the various required committees function well.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications
Position Requirements
Minimum of a Master's degree in a mental health discipline e.g. psychology, social work; or graduate of an accredited Nursing program with a Master's degree in Nursing
  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Psychologist or Registered Nurse required
  • 7-10 years managerial experience required.
  • Member of one of the mental health disciplines, extensive experience in field of mental health and substance abuse.

Language Skills:
  • Excellent verbal/written/communication skills
  • Additional languages preferred

Skills:
  • Good interpersonal communication skills, ability to develop well functioning systems

Physical Demands:
  • Involves standing, walking, sitting, talking, hearing and bending.
  • May include some repetitive motions.
