Job description

Central Steel and Wire Company, a leading distributor and processor of metals with years of history, is seeking a Quality Specialist to join our team in University Park, IL. CS&W sells and processes over 70,000 metal products, providing customized metal solutions to our customers.
The Quality Specialist will work to ensure the overall quality of manufactured products. This role will also support and promote plant wide continuous improvement efforts and other key business processes including gathering and analyzing quality data.
Quality Specialist Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and improve ISO 9001:2015 QMS.
  • Conduct Internal and Supplier QMS audits.
  • Facilitate efforts and problem-solving projects for top occurrence non-conformances, ensure internal corrective actions, and NCR's are logged, prioritized, and completed on time.
  • Enforce process adherence through QMS auditing, process management, employee training, and the non-conformance and problem-solving processes.
  • The QA Specialist shall generate, analyze, present, and resolve as needed quality related data from audits, defect trends, SAP reporting, and customer complaints.
  • Lead and drive the non-conforming material system and review processes which includes the following: Material Review Board (MRB) activities and is responsible for ensuring proper dispositioning of the suspect nonconforming product has been carried out.
  • Experience working in a lean manufacturing or continuous environment.
  • Strong office administration skills
  • Communicates with suppliers and customers to clarify and resolve supplier / customer issues and questions.
  • The Quality Specialist shall investigate, analyze and resolve supplier quality problems by conducting audits, analyzing defect trends and leading continuous improvement plans as required.
  • Resolve customer, internal and supplier failures using Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) process.
  • Develop First Article Inspection Reports (FAIR's) and oversee their completion and presentation to customers.
  • Work with Purchasing department to ensure supplier performance is regularly reported and that appropriate and timely corrective actions are implemented.
  • Conduct supplier audits to drive process standardization, waste elimination, and continuous improvement if needed.

Analysis Responsibilities and Requirements:
  • Utilize data driven problem-solving methods to improve key quality metrics such as internal and external PPM, Scrap and Customer Satisfaction.
  • Ability to collect, compile, and analyze data to determine both root cause and corrective action to prevent recurrence in addition to driving the non-conforming material review system.
  • Working knowledge in the practical application of SPC, G R&R, Engineering Drawings, Inspection Plans, control plans, PFMEA, control charts, Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) and Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) tools, Cost of Quality (COQ).
  • Practical and working knowledge / experience of programming and using FARO CMM equipment preferred.
  • Develop and perform inspections critical for manufacturing / fabricated piece parts that are produced in-house and by secondary sources.

Job Requirements:
  • Engineering, Technical, similar degree preferred or 5 years or more of QA experience
  • 5 or more years of quality experience in manufacturing, steel distribution and fabrication or a related industry. SAP and or ERP experience a plus
  • Working knowledge and experience with a QMS; including ISO 9001:2015, AS9100 and Production Part Approval Process.
  • Experience in Lean Manufacturing principles or Six Sigma green or black belt is desirable.
  • Experience with developing Quality Control Procedures and training.
  • Excellent computer skills in: Excel, Word, Power Point, and other Microsoft tools.
  • Experience and formalized training with ISO 9001:2015 standard.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Able to work as a member of a cohesive team.
  • Experience with developing Quality Control Procedures and training as necessary
  • Ability to perform Gage R&R studies, Control Plans, PFEMA & PPAP documentation.
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills,
  • Ability to lead, teach & train.
  • Attention to detail, perseverance, thorough understanding of customers' expectations, skilled blueprint reading.
  • Proficiency with precision measuring tools
