Job Summary:
The Department of Kinesiology is seeking candidates for a adjunct teaching positions.
Salary:
PLNU pays adjuncts based on their experience and academic rank. Using a 3 unit full semester appointment as a payguide, the adjunct pay ranges would be between $3,225 and $4,805. The actual salary will be determined by the units, course length, experience, and rank of the candidate. Adjuncts are paid on an hourly basis which includes preparation and teaching time.

Job Description:
The Department of Kinesiology is seeking candidates for a adjunct teaching positions in the undergraduate programs (Applied Health Science and Exercise & Sport Science) and the (Master of Science in Kinesiology) to teach courses in one or more of the following areas:

  • Biomechanics
  • Fitness Assessment and Exercise Prescription
  • Sport Management
  • Exercise Physiology,
  • Strength Training,
  • Corrective Exercise
  • other courses

Responsibilities begin mid-August 2022. Qualified applicants should have an advanced degree in Kinesiology or a closely-related field. The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate effective teaching and service and will embrace the mission of Point Loma Nazarene University. A desire to involve students in research is also preferred. The Department of Kinesiology is comprised of 13 full-time faculty members with a strong commitment to high quality teaching, service, and applied scholarship. There are approximately 300 majors working toward one of three bachelor's degrees-Applied Health Science, Athletic Training, or Exercise and Sport Science-who are drawn to the department for its commitment to educating students for the healthcare, fitness and teaching/coaching professions.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Adjunct faculty members must have knowledge of instructional strategies and techniques appropriate to effective undergraduate or graduate teaching. Adjuncts are also expected to have knowledge of ways to instruct, manage, motivate and evaluate students and do the following:
  • Teach undergraduate or graduate courses
  • Invest in students
  • Participate in institution activities as appropriate
  • Involve students in research or professional experience as appropriate

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Ph.D., Ed.D. preferred; MA/MS accepted
  • Experience in professional organizations related to the exercise science
  • Evidence of Christian commitment and active church involvement
  • A thorough commitment to the concept of Christian liberal arts education. A desire to work in an evangelical institution in the Wesleyan tradition. Supportive of the religious and educational goals of the university and its sponsoring denomination.
  • Potential for outstanding teaching

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS
The number of adjunct instructors hired varies from semester to semester, depending upon the needs of the department. Please realize that there may not presently be an adjunct position available.
When an opening becomes available for which you would be a good match, the department chair will be in contact with you for further dialogue, interviews, etc.
Approved applicants will remain in the Adjunct Pool for the upcoming school year only. To be reconsidered for the following school year, applicant will need to reapply. If hired, official transcripts will be required from all undergraduate and graduate universities attended before a contract is issued.
