Vast is looking for an Additive Manufacturing Process Engineer, reporting to the Director of Manufacturing, to support the development of the systems that will be required for the design and build of artificial-gravity human-rated space stations. This will be a full-time, exempt position located in our Hawthorne location. The Additive Manufacturing Process Engineer is responsible for the development, and testing of all aspects of the additive process with a focus on machines, de-powdering, and support removal processes.
Responsibilities:
- Optimize and develop all aspects of the Additive Manufacturing Process
- Work with all engineering teams to develop Additive Manufacturing Processes for new designs that leverage the full capability of the technology
- Work with new machines from installation through troubleshooting, calibration, and maintenance, while developing standard operating procedures and communicating with machine suppliers to address needs and problems
- Run RCA's on manufacturing issues and implement corrective actions
- Produce reports, procedures, and manuals to document results to mature development processes for production
- Work with all engineering teams to help develop reliable processes that help us meet our launch goals
- Investigate and develop new additive technologies as it relates to business needs
- Develop process and procedure controls to bring the department into AS9100D compliance
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in aeronautical, mechanical engineering, or other engineering discipline
- 2+ years of experience in propulsions design or development of metallic additive technologies
Preferred Skills & Experience:
- Deep knowledge of metal Additive Manufacturing technology
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interface with engineering and manufacturing groups to understand process constraints and provide design inputs for improved manufacturability
- Master's degree in mechanical or manufacturing engineering
- 2+ years of experience operating additive machines, including process control and verifications
- Knowledge of NASA 6030 spec
- Knowledge of AS9100D qualification processes
- Knowledge of various additive and subtractive manufacturing and joining techniques for metals
- Ability to perform trade studies using first principles and engineering fundamentals
- Experience with NX, Solidworks
- Excellent communication skills and ability to succinctly present recommendations
- Passion for advancing Additive Manufacturing technology
- Able to work well in an integrated collaborative team environment
- Highly self-motivated and able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
Additional Requirements:
- Willingness to work evenings and/or weekends to support critical mission milestones
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs unassisted
