Job Description:
Reporting directly to the Dean of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math, the Activity Coordinator will be responsible for developing, implementing, and assessing STEM related activities for the remaining three years of a 5-year Hispanic Serving Institute (HSI) STEM grant from the Department of Education. Some of the goals of this grant are to increase STEM major enrollment, increase a student's sense of belonging at STCC, increase the number of Hispanic STEM students transferring to a 4-year STEM degree program, and provide better access to mental health resources.
Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Overseeing the grant activities that fall under the grant, ensuring that said activities continue to satisfy the overarching grant goals and objectives.
- Collaborating with the relevant campus departments and community partners to create and implement grant activities.
- Attending possible conferences, trainings, and U.S. Department of Education-sponsored meetings for grant staff.
- Assessing events and activities to collect data for the grant.
- Planning future grant spending and assisting with preparation of federal correspondences and reporting with the Dean of STEM and Grants Accounting.
- Developing outreach STEM activities, including, but not limited to summer outreach activities, for middle and high school students. Collaborate with campus partners and local employers on implementing on-campus activities for current STCC students who are in STEM programs and in General Studies majors, such as the semesterly Majors & Career Fair, STEM Week, etc.
- Developing STEM Center programming for students that supports their academic and professional needs.
- Organizing and leading summer activities and camps.
- Collaborate with the Title V grant, STEM Starter Academy grant, and other academic support services on campus, including Writing Center, Supplemental Instruction, Student Success Center, MILE, LEAD, and TRIO to streamline and coordinate student resources.
- Collaborate with STCC's professional development department to provide faculty and staff development to improve teaching and learning, retention and persistence of students, and culturally relevant teaching.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree required (Master's degree preferred) in STEM and/or STEM related field.
- Evidence of strong written and verbal communication skills to support interactions with diverse academic and non-academic audiences.
- A minimum of three years of teaching experience in either a formal or informal education setting preferred.
- Good understanding of educational learning theory, as well as tutoring theory and practice. Good understanding of and experience with culturally responsive teaching.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- A commitment to working in a culturally diverse, urban community college and fostering inclusiveness, equity and diversity within the academic setting.
- Commitment to the mission of the community college.
