Hanover Hill Health Care Center is now hiring an Activities Director to join our professional, supportive and collaborative team!
Experience/Education:
- Must possess current certification as a therapeutic recreation specialist or activities professional by a recognized accrediting body; or posses current license as a qualified occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant; or have completed a training course approved by the State (MEPAP or equivalent)
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience working within an activity department with long term care and Alzheimer’s populations. And at least one (1) year of managerial experience preferred.
- Must hold a valid, unencumbered driver’s license and be able and willing to drive the facility bus.
- Have an aptitude for, and some training in arts and crafts and the adaptation of them to meet the resident’s individual needs.
Job Duties:
- Direct the activities department in planning, developing, directing, and evaluating activity events and programs.
- Schedule meaningful activity programs for all residents throughout the facility including those residents who are socially withdrawn choosing to stay in their rooms including implementation of creative, intellectual, physical, service, social and spiritual programs each week.
- Establish protocols for resident’s needs, interests and abilities.
- Attend and participate in activities and programs.
- Perform administrative requirements such as completing necessary forms, charge slips, reports, etc. and submitting to the Administrator as required.
- Make written and oral reports/recommendations to the Administrator concerning the operation of the Activities Department.
- Develop and maintain a good working rapport with other departments within the facility, and outside community health, welfare and social agencies.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of the activities program in terms of enhancing the quality of the resident’s life, based on goals and performance objectives of the program.
- Utilize evaluations given to residents to revise activity programs.
- Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the department.
- Meet with the Activities staff on a regular basis to identify and correct problem areas and/or evaluate for improvement of services.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures for identifying the spiritual, social, recreational, and emotional needs of the resident.
- Participate in regularly scheduled orientation and in-service training programs in relation to the social, emotional and recreational needs of the residents.
- Document activity programs and residents’ progress within the activities.
- Maintain records that improve future planning, individualized approaches, and continual evaluations; make revisions as necessary.
