Description
This position is responsible for coordinating activities and events for participants at a Senior Center in addition to assisting in managing the operations of the assigned Center.
Examples of Duties
- The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Plan, organize and implement activities, trips and special events; assist in coordinating daily activities of the Senior Center; assist the Senior Center Manager with the management of the day-to-day operations of the Senior Center. In the absence of the manager, assume the responsibility for operating the Senior Center; assist in the scheduling of educational programs; assist in locating instructors and coordinating classes for senior clients; assist in the monitoring the facility to ensure that it is safe, secure, and properly maintained; assist the manager with welcoming new Senior Center participants and briefing them on policies and procedures; provide companionship and assistance to senior center participants; assist with special projects on weekends and/or in evenings when necessary; performs related duties as required.
- Processes a variety of documentation associated with department/division operations, within designated timeframes and per established procedures receives and reviews various documentation; reviews, completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate; prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, and other documentation; compiles data for further processing or for use in preparation of department reports; and maintains computerized and/or hardcopy records.
- Operates a personal computer to enter, retrieve, review or modify data, utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, Internet, e-mail, or other software; and operates general office or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions.
- Communicates with supervisor, other County employees, clients, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Graduation from high school or GED equivalent. Additional higher education or certification in a related field is preferred.
- Three (3) years of experience performing general office duties.
- Two (2) years of experience working with the public (senior adult population preferred).
- One (1) year of experience planning activities and events.
Knowledge, Skill, Abilities/ Supplemental Information
- Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license. Must possess and maintain basic first aid and CPR certifications.
- Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities: Skill in organizing activities and events; knowledge of interests of the senior adult population; knowledge of Federal, State, ARC and local guidelines regarding social services; knowledge of counseling techniques; skill in oral and written communications and in interpersonal relations; ability to operate and efficiently use various computer software and general office equipment; skill in development and organization of comprehensive programs and activities for senior adults.
