Aces in Motion (AIM) Middle School Director Job Description


Title: AIM Middle School Director

Work Schedule: 40 hours a week 

Location: Duval Early Learning Academy

Reports To: Program Director and Executive Director 

Salary Range: $40,000 - 45,000.00

Job Summary: 

The AIM Middle School Director (MSD) reports directly to the Program Director and  is responsible for the planning, organizing, and leading the Middle School component of Aces In Motion. The current population of the AIM Middle School program, on average, is 35 Middle School students. MSD is not only responsible for the safety and logistics of the AIM MS students’ portion of programming, MSD is also required to train, manage and supervise 5-7 General Staff assigned to the Middle School team and student volunteers (AIM Ambassadors). 


Along with oversight of daily program operations, the MSD collaborates with the AIM Executive Director, Program Director, High School Director, College and Career Coordinator and AIM Mental Health Counselor to implement enrichment, life skills, and academic activities for all youth. MSD will communicate all necessary information and updates about individual students with families as needed. 


This position involves carrying out the short and long-term strategic objectives of the organization in order to develop valuable skills for our students, staff and families as per the AIM vision. This includes, but is not limited to, coordinating enrichment activities with local partners, mentoring students, submitting mental health counseling referrals, developing and facilitating culturally appropriate activities, tracking attendance and grant-based performance measures, etc. 


This position must demonstrate AIM Values and Skills (Learning, Integrity, Leadership, Community, Teamwork, Effort and Resiliency), an understanding of underserved/underrepresented communities and serve as a positive role model to all AIM staff, students and the community at large.  


Responsibilities: 


Supervision


  • Commit to and model the AIM Mission and Values for all staff, students and families
  • Supervise all General Staff (Coaches), with special emphasis on Middle School Coaches and volunteers roles, and responsibilities to appropriately delegate daily tasks for the benefit of AIM Middle School students 
  • Provide guidance to all Coaches on daily activities or program equipment when appropriate
  • Daily set-up and breakdown of program equipment, resources, and area used during programming 
  • Responsible for cleanliness and order of program sites at the beginning and end of program hours
  • Oversee use of Middle School academic area ensuring rules are followed and provide assistance to students when appropriate 
  • Track and verify Middle School students’ participation at program site at set times per day through use of organized electronic system
  • Cultivate and maintain a safe, supportive, and productive learning environment where all youth will be successful 
  • Participate in training and development opportunities to learn/improve best youth development practices and implementation of programs and activities
  • Communicate and collaborate with other AIM staff members to maintain daily practices, routines and complete tasks
  • Work to hold youth and families accountable to the AIM Family Vision and AIM Academy Family Contract 


Relationship Building


  • Support and encourage youth through modeling and daily reflection of AIM values and skills: Learning, Integrity, Leadership, Community, Teamwork, Effort and Resiliency
  • Develop understanding of different learning styles and stages to improve individual academic performance, life skills, and character development
  • Facilitate relationships between students, volunteers, and staff members 
  • Cultivate positive relationships with youth and to offer quality, engaging and fun educational opportunities 
  • Implement multicultural educational strategies needed to support youth from the Gainesville community
  • Willingness to learn and understand youth development and/or educational work with youth, families, and organizations of Alachua County 


Programming:


  • Develop, print, and deliver daily schedule with specific roles, locations, and expectations for each Middle School Coach during daily staff huddles 
  • Collaborate with Program Director to communicate with external enrichment partners to prepare program activities 
  • Schedule academic or enrichment activities on a short term and long term basis 
  • Collaborate with the Program Director to seek out opportunities for students including field trips, activities, etc.
  • Monitor quantities of academic and recreational resources and supplies at program site and order supplies when needed 
  • Update the Master Calendar to track enrichment, academics, and active hours for annual reports  
  • Support all additional AIM programming events as needed (i.e. AIM Family Dinners, AIM Family Banquet, AIM Parent events, College and Career Trips, etc.)

  • Ability to present a positive image to staff, participants, colleagues, and the community 
  • Ability to work independently, be flexible, and manage multiple priorities. Must be capable of adaptability with daily schedule as well as be organized and plan efficiently
  • High degree of emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills  
  • Responsible, dependable, punctual, and initiative taking 
  • A positive attitude and mature personality conducive to working effectively as a team player with diverse members, staff, interns, volunteers, parents/guardians and other stakeholders 
  • Must be able to multitask while maintaining safety for students and staff and conducting daily duties  
  • Must be friendly and professional at all times 
  • Must have a strong work ethic and high degree of professionalism 
  • Detail-oriented with excellent communication, organizational, interpersonal and writing skills


  • Valid FL Driver’s License. Must have reliable transportation and be able to drive a car and have appropriate auto insurance coverage 
  • CPR/AED and First Aid Certification within 90 days of employment 
  • Proficient computer skills, especially using Microsoft Suite and Google Suite of applications
