Accounts Payable Specialist

Our Accounting department is looking for an Accounts Payable Specialist to process payments for general expenses incurred by the company, ensuring proper accounting for all transactions.  The Accounts Payable Specialist research historical expense activity and determines the correct account numbers used to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the financial statements. 

 

Qualifications

• Associates degree in a business related field or 3 years of accounting/bookkeeping experience
• Detail oriented
• Basic skills using Microsoft Word and Excel
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Strong written and oral communication skills

 

Responsibilities

• Review and process daily invoices and expense reports to determine the amount due, proper account, payee information, payment type, and business unit classifications. Critical for ensuring timely and accurate payments.
• Process the ten monthly state Farm Bureau expense billings. Maintain contact with state accounting departments.
• Bill state Farm Bureaus and the Casualty Company for their portion of shared expenses, requiring knowledge of agreements between the home office and the states, and follow up on unpaid bills.
• Monitor general expense payable, state billing receivable accounts, advance accounts, and other miscellaneous expense-related accounts. Send correspondence to related parties as needed.
• Process monthly journal entries, including accruals of general expenses and credit card transactions.
• Assist in line-item research for the quarterly General Expense board notes and the annual General Expense budget.
• Process payments through an external check file and review for accuracy and authorization.
• Assist with answering user questions related to outstanding payments and the AP OnBase workflow.
