The Accounting Specialist is responsible for performing basic accounting functions that include journal voucher entry and posting, account reconciliations, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliations. The Accounting Specialist will assist with month-end close to ensure financial information for GuideStone Financial Resources and its controlled subsidiaries is available in a timely manner. The Accounting Specialist is also responsible for reconciling clearing accounts which will require communication with other departments within the organization, prepare daily cash summary for PNC, communicate any identified issues both internally (Accounting Supervisor as well as other Accounting Specialists) and externally (transfer agent, fund accountant, custodial bank).
What you will do:
- Prepare daily cash summary for PNC.
- Reconcile clearing accounts to ensure all money received or paid out is reflected in the appropriate recordkeeping system. Research and correct any out of balance.
- Process download from transfer agent. Research and resolve cash or income differences.
- Review OMNI to GL recons & error report. Research and make necessary corrections.
- Prepare bank reconciliations.
- Assist with month-end close.
- Record and maintain fixed asset system.
- Review travel reports and record related journal entries.
- Other recurring journal entries and reconciliation.
- Prepare system improvement requirements for information systems, perform modification testing, and assist with special projects.
- Other duties may be assigned.
- Overtime as required.
What you will need:
- Bachelors Degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent work experience.
- 0-2 years of accounting experience preferred.
- Strong spreadsheet skills.
- Excellent analytical and problem solving skills to reconcile clearing accounts and bank reconciliations with high level of volume.
- Knowledge of the financial services industry
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting procedures.
- Ability to quickly learn new software.
- Good organizational skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
- Must have ability to work in a multi-company environment with numerous intercompany accounts (multiple retirement plans and investment options).
- Ability to develop alternative procedures.
- Ability to review program-generated journal entries for reasonableness.
- Must have complete confidentiality regarding GuideStone business matters.
