The typical starting salary range ($131,000 - $170,000) for this role is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications and location. The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.

As an Accounting Manager / Assistant Controller I, you will coordinate and manage the accounting function, ensuring the accuracy and maintenance of the ledger accounts and resultant financial statements. Your responsibilities will also include complex accounting projects.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for managing specific accounting discipline - Reinsurance Accounting/Operations.
- Hire, develop, coach and make compensation recommendations for assigned staff.
- Effectively establish and communicate departmental objectives to staff and ensure they are delivered on and adherence to accounting controls and deadlines.
- Utilize all resources (technology, staff, other departments, etc.) in order to conduct complex accounting projects.
- Participate in broad projects by providing technical accounting expertise to a larger group.
- Research the most complex accounting issues.
- Prepare and deliver formal presentations to management to summarize findings.
- Manage projects across departments.
- Establish timetables, sets priorities, and must be able to juggle conflicting priorities.
- Establish and maintain effective communication across departments to ensure accurate and timely completion.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or equivalent accounting experience required.
- Minimum of 7 years of accounting or finance experience
- Extensive knowledge of accounting practices and procedures.
- Extensive experience dealing with statutory authorities and expertise on statutory matters and compliance requirements.
- Ability to assess and communicate financial implications of business plans and actions.
- Ability to display profit orientation and business results focus. Demonstrates business partnering ability and focus on business results.
- Ability to communicate in non-technical terms and present analysis in an understandable and concise manner.
- Knowledge of reinsurance concepts and related accounting.
- Management experience required.
