Job Description
The Sacramento Area Council of Governments (SACOG) is seeking qualified candidates for an approximately 6-12 month paid Accounting Internship. The internship will assist the Finance Team with day-to-day accounting related work. All applicants are required to be enrolled in an undergraduate/graduate level accounting, finance, or related program at a college or university. Hours are flexible and may be up to 20 hours during the school year and 40 hours per week in the summer depending on school schedule. No more than 1,000 hours may be worked in any given fiscal year (July 1 - June 30).

Examples of Typical Job Functions
This position will work primarily with our accounting staff. The weekly responsibilities will include accounts payable, deposits, and accounts receivable. In addition, the position will assist with our audit, fiscal year end closing, learn about and assist staff with the accounting software, and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Proficiency with MS Word and Excel
- Enrolled in an undergraduate/graduate level accounting, finance, or related program at a college or university with a minimum of one year completed in accounting, finance, or related field
- Enrolled as an upper division student or graduate level student with a focus on accounting, finance, or related program
- Ability to communicate well verbally and in writing
- Ability to exercise tact and discretion in the work environment
- Accuracy and attention to detail
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to follow up on pending issues, take initiative and solve problems
- Ability to work independently and with a team in a fast-paced and progressive environment
- Willingness to learn and develop new skills
Education and Experience
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.
Possession of a valid California driver's license may be required for some assignments. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

FICA Alternative 401(a) Plan
In lieu of contributions to Social Security, 7.5% of gross pre-tax wages will be deposited to a 401(a) account for benefit of the intern.
Holidays
The following regular holidays are observed at SACOG:

Floating Holidays
One floating holiday per calendar year shall be granted to interns who have completed 18 months of service.
Sick Leave
After 90 days of employment, 40 hours of sick leave shall be granted to student interns in accordance with California law.
Unemployment Insurance & Workers' Compensation
SACOG will provide unemployment and workers' compensation insurance as determined by California law.
Flexible Work Benefit
SACOG will provide each employee with a taxable benefit of $120 per month to cover costs of teleworking and/or commuting
