We are seeking an Accountant for a local County Finance Department in Everett, Washington.
This is a Contract position working 20 to 30 hours a week. (possibility hours will increase to 40).
BASIC FUNCTION
To perform professional accounting work in the preparation of Public Records requests which requires the application of established accounting principles, theories, concepts and practices.
Job Duties
- Conduct forensic accounting activities.
- Process and redact records for Public Records requests
- Enter data and maintain files in the Public Records database; process and track requests received; conduct and coordinate search and internal review of relevant records; prepare redaction logs and letters; coordinate with other departmental staff.
- Prepare financial reports; compile financial data; develop reports formats.
- Identify accounting record problems and recommend solutions; assist department staff by answering accounting and records related questions.
- Develop working forms and tasks within general departmental policies and procedures.
- Perform related duties as required.

- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with county employees and the general public
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Maintain necessary records and prepare required reports

- Utilize desktop computer applications, such as word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and other applications as available
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Preferred: Two years of professional accounting experience.
A Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, finance or other field directly related to professional accounting work OR any combination of training and or experience that provides the preferred knowledge and abilities.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
- principles, theories and practices of governmental accounting
- internal and operational control concepts, techniques and relationships
- basic knowledge of the Governmental Accounting Standards Board, accounting practices and procedures
