Accountant Bookkeeper

Summary:

We are looking for an experienced accountant to oversee accounting operations. Genesis Farms accountant is responsible for controlling and verifying all financial transactions and performing technical and administrative functions including general accounting, payroll administration, bookkeeping, budget monitoring, financial reporting, reconciling account balances and bank statements, maintaining general ledger and preparing month-end close procedures and overall administrative support to the organization. A successful accountant combines excellent analytical skills with a thorough knowledge of accounting principles to analyze, prepare and present consistent and accurate financial reports and forecasts. The ideal candidate has several years of experience and is comfortable working both independently and as part of a team and will have a successful track record of managing cross-functional tasks and projects in a fast-paced environment and must be able to wear multiple hats and work under pressure. Experience in cannabis is not required but if the accountant does not have cannabis experience, he or she must quickly learn and maintain a keen understanding of the unique tax, banking and financial implications facing the cannabis industry. Experience in production, manufacturing and retail industries is a plus.

Responsibilities:

• Play a key role in the daily accounting activities and assist in month-end close process by preparing journal entries (including but not limited to cash, fixed assets, prepaids, accruals, and inter-company transactions) and preparing various asset and liability reconciliations.
• Perform account analysis and maintain account reconciliations, including bank statements and intercompany general ledger accounts. (across multiple legal entities and facilities)
• Assist with external and internal audit requests, including quarterly reviews and yearend.
• Assist with Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable with customer/vendor relations.
• Compile internal management reports and seek to provide value through financial data.
• Participate in special projects/oversight of additional technical accounting areas as assigned.
• Develop, document, and adhere to business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.

Knowledge/Experience:

·         Experience Required: 2-3 years general ledger accounting and financial analysis experience.

·         Education in related field is a plus but not required.

·         Advanced Excel skills required.

·         Experienced in the use of accounting software (QuickBooks, Expensify etc.)

·         Must have a solid understanding of accounting concepts and basic accounting fundamentals: GAAP, general ledger accounting, financial accounting statements, and P&L statements.

·         Demonstrated experience with general ledgers, account reconciliations, bank accounts, customer and vendor statements etc.

·         Experience with intercompany accounting and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) Internal Control Framework highly desirable.

·         Excellent communication, problem-solving and follow-up skills.

·         Enjoys working in a start-up, fast-paced environment.
