Accountant
Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
· Function as primary liaison for Information Technology finance functions and personnel, including normal monthly duties, ad-hoc reporting and support, budgeting and forecasting, and other duties as assigned.
· Participate in monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes in an accurate and timely fashion; including but not limited to journal entries, account reconciliations, variance analysis, financial report preparation, reviews, etc.
· Record and maintain activity in the fixed assets system.
· Review and analyze posted general ledger account activity and investigate variances.
· Record and reconcile activity of assigned general ledger accounts.
· Prepare and distribute financial information and reports on a regular basis.
· Assist with the annual audit via compilation of data, account reconciliation, and other duties as needed.
· Prepare and update detailed and comprehensive policies and procedures for responsible accounting areas. Analyze existing processes and recommend improvements to enhance the process.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
General and Supervisory Responsibilities:
· Demonstrate the following culture within the Accounting Department: (i) customer service, (ii) continuing process improvement, (iii) building effective working relationships with people outside the department, and (iv) personal responsibility for the integrity of all work.
· Cross train on other department duties.
· Assist with the training of new hires and development of training material as needed.
Interaction:
· The Accountant interacts with Accounting, Finance and Information Technology personnel, and various people throughout the company including Store, Corporate Center, and Distribution Center personnel.
· Interaction with third parties including independent auditors and systems support personnel.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor's degree in Accounting. 3-5 years of prior accounting experience required; retail experience a plus
· Knowledge of accounting, financial reporting, financial and accounting reporting systems, general ledger structures, and internal controls
· Ability to produce quality materials within tight timeframes and manage several projects simultaneously, sometimes with only broad guidelines
· Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite, including advanced Excel. Oracle and Hyperion a plus. Must also demonstrate strong analytical skills
· Understanding of the big picture view and how to identify obstacles and opportunities that impact the business
· Professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
· Team player with creative problems solving approach and attention to detail
· This position requires a willingness to work a flexible schedule including occasional evenings and weekends based on business needs
