Job Description: The Aerospace Mechanical Technician is responsible for creating, troubleshooting, repairing, conducting testing, calibrating, quality control and data collecting in the performance of Aerospace Mechanical requirements performed at Det 9 / TRSS Luke AFB, AZ and will report directly to the Site Manager.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Create and interpret blueprints and mechanical drawings using manual drafting or computer aided modeling software.
- Create industry standard blueprints/technical drawings/illustrations.
- Produce and or modify components/parts to meet customer(s) needs.
- Operate automatic presses, punches, brakes, waterjet machining centers, shears, mills, lathes, welders etc.
- Interpret blueprints and mechanical drawings.
- Design, develop and construct mechanical apparatuses, devices, equipment, or components.
- Redesign equipment parts to fit with divergent configuration or to enhance capabilities.
- Modify components to fit with divergent configurations or to enhance capabilities.
- Analyze technical data to determine applicability to design problems.
- Calculate design data related to document layouts, detailed specifications, parts lists, estimates, and procedures.
- Inspect, analyze, and check drawings or equipment/components to determine adequacy of drawings and design.
- Plan and conduct inspections/tests to evaluate equipment/component performance, determining inspection/test requirements and procedures.
- Analyze inspection/test results, redesigned or modified equipment/components to improve performance.
- Perform non-routine and complex assignments involving responsibility for planning/completing projects of relatively limited scope or a portion of a larger and more diverse project.
- Select and adapt plans, techniques, design, or layouts.
- Contact personnel in related activities to resolve problems and to coordinate work efforts.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Security Responsibilities:
Compliance with all company Information Systems security policies and procedures. Personally responsible for proper classification and marking of all information and materials, in any form. Shall be assigned specific responsibility for Information Security by immediate supervisor or department management. Shall not divulge any information, or afford access, to other employees not having a need-to-know. Shall not divulge information outside company without management approval. Technician shall execute company non-disclosure agreement prior to access to any controlled information.
Work Environment:
- Will work in a typical training device shop floor environment.
- Will be working in areas with risk of electrical shock.
- Will at times be exposed to the following conditions: extreme heat, airborne particles, and loud noises.
Education and/or Experience:
- Experience operating a variety of automated presses, punches, brakes, mills, lathes, and welders.
- Knowledge of fabrication machinery, tools, and equipment to include CNC-driven machines, 3D printing, laser cutting/engraving.
Qualifications:
- Three years (3) minimum work experience in various trades such as metal design/fabrication, welding, machining, wood.
- Three years (3) minimum experience operating CNC machinery to produce or modify components.

Language Skills:
Must have the ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex word and technical documents/diagrams. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret English language professional journals, technical procedures, government specifications or industry standards. Will be required to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries and complaints. Ability to draft reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and customers. Must be able to generate effective oral and written presentations and proposals on complex subjects.
Mathematical Skills:
Must be able to calculate figures and amounts, prices, commissions, and percentages, and to draw and interpret graphs. Ability to produce, understand, and interpret mathematical equations and algorithms associated with simulation modeling and design.
Reasoning Ability:
Must be able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. An ability to interpret complex customer requirements and attitudes from verbal, non-verbal, and written communication is desirable. Must be able to read and understand electrical schematics and drawings.
