Job description

The Department of Pathology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) is recruiting a full-time Academic Renal Pathologist. The position is open rank and both recent fellowship graduates and mid-career/senior physicians are strongly encouraged to apply. BIDMC is a tertiary care facility with 743 licensed beds and an internationally renowned principal teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School with NCI Comprehensive Cancer Center-affiliated Cancer Center.
The BIDMC Department of Pathology has launched new strategic initiatives in cutting-edge Precision Diagnostics (including cancer genomics, multiplex biomarker theranostics, and computational/digital pathology).
We are looking for an active, energetic, team-oriented faculty member to help us shape our future agenda and engage in areas that are being actively developed.
The renal pathology laboratory features all diagnostic modalities, including EM and immunofluorescence. The candidate will pursue the expansion of cutting-edge diagnostic techniques for patient care (e.g., multiplex IHC/IF, digital pathology with AI algorithms, etc.)
Candidates with existing diagnostic consultation/referral business or interest in developing a national or international renal pathology consultation operation are especially encouraged to apply. We envision that the academic consultation practice in renal pathology will benefit from our strategic investment in digital and computational pathology.
In addition to strong diagnostic skills in renal pathology, interest in a second area of surgical pathology or molecular diagnostics (including NGS and FISH) is desirable. Strong interest in further developing the crucial role of Pathology in clinical trials is a plus, including new companion diagnostics.
Candidates with clinical, translational, or laboratory-based research programs are particularly encouraged to apply. Candidates with existing NIH grant funding will be supported by attractive research space and start-up funds to expand their programs.
The successful candidate will join a team of faculty to provide world-class diagnostics at BIDMC. Additionally, the candidate will support the vibrant residency and fellowship training programs.
Applicants must be board certified in Pathology (AP or AP/CP).
The candidate will be appointed to the full-time faculty of Harvard Medical School at an academic rank commensurate with experience.
Research
Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center consistently ranks as a national leader among independent hospitals in National Institutes of Health funding. Research funding totals over $229.8 million annually. BIDMC researchers run more than 850 active sponsored projects and 500 funded and non-funded clinical trials.
The Harvard-Thorndike Laboratory, the nation's oldest clinical research laboratory, has been located on this site since 1973. BIDMC also shares important clinical and research programs with institutions such as the Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center, Joslin Diabetes Center and Children's Hospital.
BIDMC is part of Beth Israel Lahey Health, a health care system that brings together academic medical centers and teaching hospitals, community and specialty hospitals, and more than 4,000 physicians and 35,000 employees in a shared mission to expand access to great care and advance the science and practice of medicine through groundbreaking research and education.
Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center is committed to increasing representation by women and underrepresented minorities on its faculty, and we particularly encourage applications from such candidates.
