Job Profile Summary
Under limited supervision, this position provides advanced professional support by providing opportunities for Upward Bound participants to develop social skills, cultural competence, study skills, and academic skills appropriate for their educational goals. Works with low-income, first generation, or academically disadvantaged high school students to help them develop the skills need to become successful college students. Serves as the liaison between the high schools and Broward College to ensure implementation and successful progress towards project objectives. Performs related duties as assigned.
This is a temporary position which is contingent upon continuation of grant funding which ends on August 31, 2022. The incumbent is subject to annual performance evaluation and grant contract renewal.
Minimum Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, administration or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Minimum Experience/Training:
  • Six or more years of experience in an educational setting and/or related experience teaching, advising, and/or academic support services. Developing and providing college preparatory instruction, tutoring, academic advising, career exploration, assessment, standardized testing, and/or enrichment activities is required. Experience reviewing or evaluating transcripts and test scores and developing and monitoring individual education plans strongly preferred.
  • Experience in a K-12 and/or higher education setting preferred, with demonstrated administrative experience with program development or project management strongly preferred.
  • Experience with budget and supervision preferred. Experience working with Upward Bound, other TRIO programs, or other programs focused on students who are low-income, first generation, or academically disadvantaged preferred.
  • Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds preferred.

Minimum Certification/Licenses:
  • Valid Florida Driver's License required or, as a condition of continued employment, a Valid Florida Driver's License within 30 days after being employed by the College.

Essential Functions:
  • Daily - 40%: Develops and implements College Pathway Plan (Individual Development Plan -IDP) and tracks participants' academic progress including obtaining grades every nine-weeks, semester grades, annual standardized test scores, and college enrollment documents such as acceptance letters, FAFSA completion verification and documentation of first semester schedule of post-secondary attendance. Coordinates ACT/SAT test support, and college prep courses, academic advising and collaborative learning activities; activities promoting completion of secondary education, and entrance into, and completion of, postsecondary education. Provides progressive, one-on-one advising for college and career planning, college selection, financial aid application, scholarship applications and college admission applications during academic year and summer programs. Supports students' college and career readiness goals and discusses student growth across the curriculum. Follows Federal grant guidelines and statutory requirements for the program.
  • Daily - 20%: Oversees academic year and summer program components by planning, organizing, conducting and presenting group workshops, planning and supervising participants' attendance at program events, and assist in the recruitment, selection, and retention process for all participants. Plans college tours and other academic year and summer activities as needed.
  • Daily - 20%: Prepares and conducts regular participant credit checks to assure participants are on a satisfactory academic schedule. Plans and facilitates varied projects and assignments through individualized and group work. Initiates and maintains student files as appropriate, updating and evaluating files as new information is received. Maintains student data and program data to ensure students are on track during the academic year and summer program(s). Ensures implementation and successful progress towards project objectives by planning and scheduling work activities and effectively using resources.
  • Other (As Needed) - 5%: Collects evaluative program data, including performance records, and submits timely and accurate Annual Performance Report (APR).
  • Other (As Needed) - 5%: Completes stipend process, which includes collecting stipend reports, creating Supplier Invoices in Workday, and distribution to site locations.
  • Other (As Needed) - 5%: Assists in creating and processing site-based procurement and requisition requests for projects and programs.
  • Other - 5%: Performs related duties as assigned.

  • Requires the ability to present and disseminate data to various levels
  • Requires advanced knowledge of computerized systems and operating environments, inclusive of reporting writing functionality i.e. Microsoft Office Products and specialized computer systems
  • Ability to relate well and interact with participants and parents, along with be sensitive to the educational and economic needs of secondary youth. Effectively communicate with a diverse employee and student population
  • General understanding of College's structure, policies and practices, and the impact on own area. Knowledge of federal state laws.
