Academic Coach Transition Program
Marlborough High School
This position is subject to continued available funding in the Marlborough Public Schools.
Work Year:
2023- 24 Academic Year
Reports to:
Principal and his/her designee
Salary:
Salary based on experience, strongly competitive with classroom assistant salaries, non-unit position.
Program Summary
Marlborough High School is developing an innovative program for adolescents who have high-risk behaviors and acute and recovering behavioral or medical health needs. The Program will provide services and supports for students who are returning from hospitalizations, struggling to attend school, being tutored in home or hospital settings. The program helps teens and their families with the process of reentry and reintegration into the school community by supporting their academic, social, and emotional functioning. Students participate in the program from 4 to 12 weeks. The Academic Coach works with students and teachers, supporting students with a goal of a successful return to daily classes in as short a period of time as possible.
Job Goal:
To help students needing intensive supports in returning to or transitioning into Marlborough High School to make rapid progress toward achieving credits needed to complete the school year on track for graduation.
Statement of Duties:
  • Develops and implements the academic component of the overall case management plan for each student in BRYT.
  • Plans a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students, including modifying existing curriculum and developing modular units allowing BRYT students to rapidly achieve credit.
  • Develops and maintains a work tracking and academic data management system for students in BRYT.
  • Pro-actively communicates with teacher colleagues and school administrators regarding the academic program, requirements, progress, and status of each student in BRYT.
  • Engages in consistent two-way communication with the families of Bridge for Resilient Youth in Transition (BRYT) students to keep them apprised of student progress and gather feedback and information to support student learning and well-being.
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
  • Provides tutoring and guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and in harmony with the goals establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and the like to communicate these objectives to students.
  • Employs instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives, including leading small-group and 1:1 tutoring sessions with BRYT students.
  • Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
  • Counsels with colleagues, students, and or parents on a regular basis.
  • Monitors progress of BRYT students who have transitioned out of the program.
  • Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct, and for the classroom develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom.
  • Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and or volunteer(s).
  • Attends staff meetings and serves on staff and or school committees.
  • Participate in staff development programs.

Qualifications:
  • Current and Valid MA DESE license as a High School teacher preferred; ESL and Special Education experience preferred;
  • SEI Endorsement is preferred
  • Bilingual candidates (Spanish or Portuguese) preferred
  • Demonstrated interest in teaching students struggling with complex challenges
  • Evidence of the emotional maturity and stability necessary for the work involved
  • Such additional qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred, equivalent education and experience considered
  • Teaching and/or tutoring experience, especially with high-risk students preferred
  • Strong communication and organization skills
  • Must work well as a team member
