General Description of Position
Under the general direction and supervision of the Director of Tutoring and Transitions, the Academic Coach is responsible for the provision of academic and vocational coaching services to aid in and accelerate students' educational plans. The Academic Coach also provides student success support through the administration and marketing of tutoring services for current and prospective students on the Lincoln campuses. The Academic Coach analyzes prospective and current student information through records, tests, and interviews to create an academic education plan, that may include studying with Transitions. This position is responsible for the day-to-day planning and administration of Tutoring services on the Lincoln campus available to all Southeast Community College students and students enrolled in the Transitions program.
This is a part-time regular position, working up to 29 hours/week. This position is located on-campus in Lincoln, NE. This position pays $22.50/hour.
Essential Functions

Supervise and Coordinate Operations of the Academic Success Center on the
Lincoln Campus
  • This position is responsible for the day-to-day planning and administration of Tutoring services on the Lincoln campus available to all Southeast Community College students and students enrolled in the Transitions program. This includes recruiting, interviewing, hiring, orienting, and supervising tutors; greeting students, assisting with login, directing students to tutors, answering phone and emails, tracking student use with the use of the login program, ensuring completion of and verifying tutor logs, creating tutor schedules, processing bi-monthly tutor web-time entry, and maintaining records.
  • Additional duties assigned include but are not limited to, supervising the Academic Success Center, developing/revising course materials, attending team and campus meetings; promoting programs across the College and community; working with advisors, success coaches, and instructors to provide transitions and tutoring support to students in need; preparing semester and annual statistical reports; promoting/supporting diversity; assisting the Director of Tutoring and Transitions with tutor training, marketing, and other requests.
 
Maintain Records
  • Maintain accurate student records associated with advising, course progress, achievement and completion of Transitions, disability activities, and tutor logs. Assist Director with developing/ maintaining/ revising hiring materials, procedures, and Tutor Handbook as needed.
  • Maintain tutor employee records.
  • Maintain student tutor tracking program and ensure login by all students using tutoring services.
  • Assist in gathering and interpreting data for department assessment.
  • Provide semester and annual data/reports on tutoring services and Transitions Lab.
 
Assist Individuals with Educational Plans and Tutoring Services
  • Assists individuals in developing, aiding, and sustaining an accelerated educational plan based on individual abilities, interests, and assessment scores. Enroll, assist, and monitor students' progress in the Transitions program to advance program acceptance/readiness and graduation requirements in writing, reading, and math courses.
  • Serve as the first line of communication between students and the college staff and connect students with other college services.
  • Assist college credit and Transitions students with finding tutors. Serve as the Lincoln contact for Upswing online tutoring service.
 
Provide Instruction in Math, English Writing, Reading, and Basic Computer Skills
  • Provide instruction/tutoring on math fundamentals, algebra, writing, reading, and basic computer skills and assists students with computer-based instructional programs.
  • Provide academic support in basic math fundamentals, algebra, English writing, reading, basic computer skills, and assistance with the usage of educational software programs.
 
Assist with Marketing and Promotion of the Academic Success Center Services
  • Assist the Director of Tutoring and Transitions with the marketing of both programs, including, but not limited to keeping website and monitor information current, presenting to classes, programs, and college-wide events, developing and distributing flyers or other literature, maintaining display boards, submitting information about tutor center hours and Transitions Lab information, etc. to campus publications and other literature for faculty, staff, students, and community.
 
Function as a Member of the Academic Success Center Team
  • Interact with colleagues, students, and staff in a manner that promotes a positive image of the Academic Success Team and the college and which promotes/facilitates institutional services such as recruitment, placement, orientation, and retention.
  • Coordinate with the Writing Center Coordinator as needed. Participate in team/ department/ division/ student services/ and college meetings.

Develop/Revise Course Curriculum and Educational Materials
  • In cooperation with other team members, develop and/or revise course objectives, content such as sample tests and online course material, descriptions, and instructional strategies. The Academic Coach will gather textbooks and other resources for tutors and study aids for students.
 
Promote/Support Diversity, Inclusion, Equity, and Access
  • Work toward creating a welcoming, inclusive, equitable, and productive work and learning environment, where all students, faculty members, and college employees are valued and may contribute to their full potential, regardless of their differences.
  • Make concerted efforts to implement accessible and inclusive practices and processes to create a diverse and equitable learning and work environment. 
  • Commit to fostering and maintaining a safe environment of respect and inclusion for students, employees, and members of the community.
  • Promote and support the College's policies and programming related to access, fair employment, EEO, equity, inclusion, and diversity.

Marginal Functions
  1. Assist with public relations activities such as campus tours, community presentations, and various outreach programs on behalf of the College.
  2. Assist with College Orientation and inform new students about the services available at the Academic Success Center.
  3. Develop and maintains cooperative working relationships with other Student Services units, Learning Centers, TCA/Sencap, SCC programs, and local service agencies.
  4. Coordinate referrals for the delivery of College support services.
  5. Assist the Director of Tutoring and Transitions with acquiring resource materials and data appropriate for inclusion in the Academic Success Center.
  6. Perform other related duties within the division/program as assigned.
  7. May be required to perform associated duties, functions, or assignments in other divisions/programs/areas as required.
  8. Perform other College functions and duties as assigned.
  9. Must be able to work varied days, hours, shifts, locations, and campuses as required. Work schedules (hours/days/work location) are scheduled by Southeast Community College based on the needs of the College. Work hours, shifts, days, and work locations may vary depending on the needs of Southeast Community College and are subject to modification. Emergency or scheduled special activities may require hours outside of the regular workweek.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  1. Ability to work and communicate with diverse students, staff, faculty, and the public.
  2. Academic skills to instruct and tutor in fundamental math and algebra, basic English writing, and reading as well as orient and assist students with online curriculum.
  3. Knowledge and ability to sustain academic support with students over multiple school terms and collect and record student progress data.
  4. Skills and abilities necessary to describe various vocational programs and occupations in a factual, clear, and concise manner in both verbal and written formats.
  5. Ability to apply appropriate computer skills in using such software as word processing, spreadsheet, or database.
  6. Ability to safely lift, push and move objects weighing up to (10 pounds). Ability to tolerate considerable walking, bending, standing, and moving in the performance of duties.
  7. The individual must possess the above skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
Minimum Qualifications
  1. Bachelor's degree in Education, Math, English, Counseling, Psychology, Business, or a related field of study.
  2. One (1) year of work experience teaching math at the secondary or post-secondary level, and/or two (2) years of experience in tutoring, counseling, adult education, ESL, or related work experience.
Desired Qualifications
  1. Supervisory experience in a Tutoring Center
  2. Work experience teaching algebra, English writing, and reading in an educational setting.
  3. Knowledgeable with online scheduling platform (WCOnline).
Salary
$22.50 per hour
