Position Summary

  • General CCC student population

Salary & Benefits
  • Full Salary Range: $44,813 - $66,323/annual - depending on education and experience
  • Anticipated Hiring Range: $44,813 - $55,568/annual - depending on education and experience
  • Cafeteria Plan: In addition to the base compensation, benefits-eligible employees receive an extra $5,640 per year to put toward benefit costs or to be used as additional take-home pay
  • Paid Holidays: 21 (including a full week off between Christmas and New Year's Day and over Spring Break)
  • Vacation & Sick Leave: Approximately 17 paid vacation days & 9 paid sick leave days accrued annually

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assists the Advising Manager Sr. with establishing goals and objectives for the Academic Advising program.
  • At the discretion of the Manager Sr. may be assigned to a specific CCC student group and/or Flagstaff campus/center such as, and not limited to Career and Technical Education (CTE), CCC2NAU, and other identified cohorts (Athletics, Transfer, Veterans, etc.).
  • Constantly monitors, analyzes, and evaluates current scope of services offered through academic advising and plans, implements and directs new initiatives under the supervision of the Advising Manager, Sr.
  • Advises program participants over the entire college district involving personal and educational issues related to their Academic and life goals. Determines or develops a specific course of action, or makes recommendations or referrals to internal programs and outside agencies if required.
  • Gathers data and maintains confidential files of program participants.
  • Monitors participants' progress within a particular educational program and formulates academic plans in Degree Works audit software.
  • Maintains up to date knowledge about the college's programs and requirements; utilizes articulation software from transfer institutions regarding course and program transferability, admissions and graduation requirements.
  • Informs students about alternatives, limitations and possible consequences of academic decisions (e.g. adding, dropping and withdrawing from courses, change of program, major and/or transfer institution).
  • Establish retention efforts with student cohort that may include email and phone outreach.
  • Provides career advising expertise to students regarding the job search process, interviewing, resume, and all other facets of career planning.
  • Provides unofficial evaluation of transfer transcripts from other academic institutions for possible application to CCC degree programs.
  • Promotes the use of the college's career assessment/exploration software.
  • Collaborates with faculty and staff to provide career/degree related workshops for students.
  • Participates in professional development activities to ensure leadership and program development.
  • May require development of training and professional development presentations for internal stakeholders and new hires.
  • Serves as a liaison to external departments, groups, and agencies. Serves on internal committees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Assigned Specialization
CCC2NAU - Serves CCC and NAU partnership program that allows students to be involved in campus life at both institutions. Duties include advising and additional administrative work to assist in identification and tracking of the 2NAU student population. The position is primarily assigned to the CCC2NAU program and will be supervised by the CCC Advising Manager, Sr with a dotted line to the CCC2NAU Manager.
  • Advises new, continuing and transfer students with a variety of degree planning tools including pathways and assists with creation and publication of these resources.
  • Uses NAU student information such as Peoplesoft, Salesforce, ACCESS, to track program participants.
  • Provides assistance with transfer to NAU including admission requirements, transfer process, and scholarship eligibility.
  • Knowledge of all CCC and NAU degree requirements to assist program participants with individual degree planning and achievement.

CTE Career Services
  • Plans and organizes seasonal and community job fairs.
  • Oversees the management of the online job board and develops new contacts with external organizations for the purpose of expanding employment opportunities for students and alumni.
  • Leads college's effort to increase the use of the college's career assessment/exploration software and compiles narratives and statistical data on usage.
  • Collaborates with faculty and student services to provide resume, cover letter and Career development for students.
  • Academic internship lead.
  • CTE department liaison.

Transfer
  • University liaison with transfer partner institutions.
  • Program coordination of seasonal transfer fairs.
  • Manage transfer website and campus visits.
  • Stays up-to-date on transfer partner programs and attends transfer training as a CCC representative.
  • Lead advisor for transfer students.

Veteran's
  • Provide single point academic advising for the Veteran student population.
  • Liaison with the Veteran's Services Office and the VA Financial Aid Coordinator.
  • Have a thorough understanding of veteran specific financial aid rules.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of student development, career development, academic advising and retention issues in higher education. Knowledge of community resources and referral processes. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with groups and individuals of differing cultural or socio-economic backgrounds. Teaching and presenting experience to high school and adult learners. Strong written, verbal, analytical and organizational skills. Working knowledge in Microsoft Suite; knowledge in Banner student information system and DegreeWorks audit software is preferred. Ability to operate standard office equipment.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in education or related field, and two years of directly related experience in student affairs, academic advising, career counseling, or related field within a higher education setting; or any equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
Preferred
Master's degree in Student Development, Counseling, Educational Leadership or a related field is preferred. Experience working in a community college. Experience with academic advising in a higher education setting. Experience with tracking systems for monitoring student progress and program requirement compliance. Experience working with culturally diverse students. Experience with student activities and leadership development programs. Experience with retention programs.
