POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Yanai Initiate for Globalizing Japanese Humanities at UCLA is seeking applicants for a full-time Academic Administrator for the Japan Past & Present (JPP) program.
The successful candidate will support the Director of the Yanai Initiative and in particular its project Japan Past & Present (JPP), a digital platform sponsored by the Yanai Initiative for Globalizing Japanese Humanities at UCLA and Waseda University; as well as contribute to the UCLA Humanities Division through teaching in the Program in Digital Humanities and/or the Department of Asian Languages and Cultures.
The candidate must have a doctoral degree; demonstrated knowledge in the Japanese humanities broadly conceived; experience working in digital humanities; strong written and oral communication skills in English and Japanese; outstanding interpersonal skills to work with local and international collaborators; and demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion. The ideal candidate should have demonstrated evidence of strategic thinking and leadership, developing and teaching digital humanities courses, program planning and logistics, and the skills and commitment to promote Japanese humanities to the general public.
- Supervision of international project managers, teams, and short-term consultants
- Managing project logistics and overseeing progress and deliverables
- Identifying, coordinating, and implementing strategic outreach opportunities via professional venues, field-specific conferences, and social media
- Writing public-facing content for website and social media
- Liaising with web developers and administrators
- Collaborating on writing budgets and proposals
- Collaborating with the identification of and application to funding sources that will enhance existing JPP projects
- Assisting with invoice processing and project financial planning
The Academic Administrator for JPP directly reports to the Director of the Yanai Initiative; and supports and collaborates with the Associate Director of the Yanai Initiative on additional programs and tasks.
The Academic Administrator is also expected to teach courses in Digital Humanities and/or Japanese humanities, as needed.
Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Position salary range is $74,634 to $78,342/year.
This is a full-time (100% time) position, with a projected start date of July 1, 2024.
