JOB SUMMARY:

The Braiding Lead is responsible for providing operational support to the department, the processing of absorbable fiber onto bobbins, and producing braided absorbable sutures in accordance with process specifications and procedures within an FDA regulated environment. Daily tasks including training, basic troubleshooting of equipment and processes, basic maintenance of equipment, and running of production processes to include Hacoba, Braider Cleaning, Rackwash, and Braider Operator including set-up of the braiders, quality checks, and material doffing.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Under limited supervision and in accordance with all applicable federal, state and local laws/regulations and Corporate Johnson & Johnson, procedures and guidelines, this position:

Essential Functions/Duties, Responsibilities, and Authorities (if applicable):

• Must cross train on all jobs in department based on business need and be able to fill in for associates as needed.

• Responsible for delivering daily departments outputs for assigned shift

• Monitor assigned area and reallocate resources as necessary to meet schedule requirements within the department.

• Demonstrate leadership by delegating work of others, gather information and complete reports as requested.

• Demonstrates leadership by assisting in the hiring and review process, help schedule overtime, work assignments and vacations, move associates to level workloads and meet daily production requirements.

• Demonstrates leadership qualities. Create and actively pursue a team-based, non-threatening environment designed to promote teamwork and open exchange of ideas.

• Responsible for schedule attainment.

• Responsible for training adherence for the shift.

• Escalates any major safety, quality or equipment downtime situation to the Shift Line Facilitator or the Manufacturing Manager as applicable.

• Promotes a safety focused culture and the Good Saves program within his Shift.

• Responsible for ensuring sustainability of the 6S program.

• Responsible for cleanliness of the area.

• Responsible for maintaining all assigned work areas safe, clean and in good operating condition

• Support projects and validations as needed.

• Responsible for basic lubrication, maintenance, inspection, and troubleshooting of equipment.

• Provides recommendations and opportunities for OEE improvements.

• Opens work orders if repairs are required in the facilities or the equipment.

• Demonstrates consistently effective job performance that encompasses good quality and quantity of work, and dependability.

• Demonstrates ability to manage complexity.

• Promotes innovation and continuous learning to other associates.

• Order Raw Materials to warehouse as needed.

• Responsible for communicating business related issues or opportunities to next management level

• For those who supervise or manage a staff, responsible for ensuring that subordinates follow all Company guidelines related to Health, Safety and Environmental practices and that all resources needed to do so are available and in good condition, if applicable

• Responsible for ensuring personal and Company compliance with all Federal, State, local and Company regulations, policies, and procedures

• Performs other duties assigned as needed

• Responsible for complying with all Federal, State, local and Company regulations, policies, and procedures.

For cross training/interim training purposes:

Hacoba

• Select appropriate color bobbins and material for product. Assign lot number.

• For Absorbable product, open cans, check moisture level and record.

• Load Hacoba machine with yarn and empty bobbins.

• Verify tension of hacoba line and hacoba strokes.

• Prepare identification labels and place on trays of material for lot identification.

• When placing fiber in vacuum chambers record time in appropriate logbook, if necessary.

• Complete the Device History Record and other related forms using Good Documentation Practices.

• Follow the Line Clearance Procedure.

• Monitor and maintain Extrusion-Hacoba Kanban

Braider Cleaning

• Clean braiders, benches, and other related equipment using specified solvents and cleaning materials.

• Maintain a cleaning log.

• Schedule and communicate braiders due for cleaning.

• Blow off fiber lint from braiders using an air hose.

• Assist Braid Operators with set ups/doffs as time permits.

Rackwash

• Accurately mix chemicals for rack washing in manual tank.

• Check level of chemicals in automatic wash tank and level of water in the rinse tank.

• Place racks for washing in automatic rackwashing tank or in manual tank.

• Return racks to proper bin locations.

• Drain and clean washing tanks as needed.

Braider Operator

• Select location to set up braider lots for carrier type.

• Set up braiders in accordance to specifications requirements for material size and appropriate product.

• Verify pick gears for each braider. Change springs and pick gears.

• Create all required labels to identify lots within the braider layout.

• Perform quality checks within entire assigned braider layout.

• Maintain tension settings and adjust if necessary.

• Stop and flag malfunctioning braiders running off-quality braid.

• Verify that proper humidity levels are maintained in braider room and verify on appropriate chart.

• Doff lots upon completion.

• Complete Device History Record and other related forms using Good Documentation Practices.

• Follow the Line Clearance Procedure.

• Maintain supply of bobbins on braider benches.

• Perform maintenance or minor repair on braiders to correct braid quality problems.

• Remove and identify raw material lots for size/product changeover.

• Properly remove waste yarn from bobbins and core spools and identify.

• Monitor and maintain Hacoba-Braid Kanban

ADDITIONAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS

• Work in team environment behaving in a CREDO based respectful manner.

• Comply with all federally regulated programs.

• Adhere to J&J environmental and safety policies and guidelines.

• Comply with all job specific safety procedures and utilize PPE when necessary.

• Comply with quality system requirements as defined within procedures and instructions.

• Use test equipment (Starett Gauge, Mitutoyo Gauge, Microscope, Instron, etc) where applicable.

• Utilize applicable software systems as needed for the job (e.g. ComplianceWire, ADAPTIV, etc.)

• Consistently meet required work performance targets (RE's), if applicable

• Support LEAN and Six Sigma Initiatives.

• Support Maintenance Excellence (ME2) including 6S and Operator Asset Care.

• Accurately complete records as defined within the job procedures (e.g. manual and/or electronic documentation).

• Perform other work-related duties as assigned by supervisor.

• Consistently meet required Training due date targets.

• Maintain certification for testing.

• Perform physical inventory and cycle counting of Extrusion in-process fiber.

• Ensure adherence to current compliance regulations and standards in the department.

• Ensure safe working conditions and practices in the department.

• Demonstrate teamwork in identifying, evaluating, and resolving problems within the department.

• Cover for other operators during breaks, absences, leaves, vacations, etc.

• Follow written specifications to manufacture products. EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

• High school diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent skills, experience, or training.

• Generally, Requires 2-4 Years Work Experience

• Medical device experience preferred.

• Computer skills.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal relation skills.

• Problem solving.

• Ability to use tension meter, tachometer, pyrometer, and read scales and ruler

• Ability to use calculator, copier, and label making equipment.

• General knowledge of basic hand and power tools.

• Accurate record keeping.

• Ability to operate production and test equipment.

• Basic math skills: add, subtract, multiply, divide, average, rounding, percentages, tolerances.

• Ability to calculate exposure time.

• Prior experience with Vicryl Absorbable sutures is preferred.

• Prior experience with Suture Braid functions (Hacoba, Braider Cleaning, Rack Wash, and Braider Operator) is preferred.
