Please note that we are considering entry-level applicants.The ABA Technician position is full-time with a required summer assignment component. It includes working with students on the autism spectrum and in programs designated as highly intensive at the PreK through grade 12 levels and often involves assignment to a particular student or students in a 1:1, 1:2 or more arrangement. Students supported typically are assigned to an ELC at the preschool/elementary level or similar program at the middle or high school level. Solid knowledge, training, and background in appropriate Applied Behavioral techniques is desirable but not required.We are interested in candidates who are invested in the achievement, equity, and access of all learners in and beyond the classroom.
Candidates with diverse racial, ethnic, cultural, religious, class, and/or gender background and experiences are strongly encouraged to apply.Essential Functions and Responsibilities: May potentially work 1:1 or in a 1:2 with a student or other designated ratio depending on the nature of the disability and learning needsThe intensiveness of the 1:1 assignment may vary based on the complexity of the student needs: oDaily living skills: eating, toileting, hygiene careoMedical: seizures, vision, mobility, etc.oBehaviors: aggression, spitting, hair pulling, kicking, biting, etc. (may be required to physically restrain)May work with a group of students to facilitate lessons and activitiesBased on the student population and census in the building, may be assigned to different buildingsMay participate and facilitate in Community activities (i.e. vocational, travel training, independent living skills, etc.)Follow prescribed criteria for providing and for fading student supportSupport student during inclusion timeMay work with a group of students to facilitate lessons and activitiesProvide all accommodations delineated in their IEPProvide carryover of instructional practices developed by related service providers (speech, OT, PT, Psychologist)Provide academic support and carryover of the lessons the teacher and special education teacher has developedDevelop appropriate materials that correspond with the lesson under the direction of the teacher and special education teacherCreating opportunities and instructing students to be independent in a variety of settings across their school dayCollect and summarize data based on the educational programs developed by the special education teacherCarryover and implementation of instructional programs developed by the regular/special education teacherSupport students accessing a variety of technologyMay participate in team level meetings, consultations, and clinicsShare relevant information about learners with teachers and other school personnel as needed to facilitate problem solving, decision making, and program planningSupport students with organization of materials, assignments, and scheduleMay be required to assist with note taking and scribingFacilitate positive relationships and engagements with peersComplete all required documentation related to incidents, accidents, discipline, assaults, etc.Ensure that all accommodations outlined in the DCAP (District Curriculum Accommodation Plan) are implemented based on student needsAssist in the development of portfolios for MCAS when appropriateAssist in the facilitation of MCAS based on accommodationsSupport students during their specials, lunch, and recess timesFacilitate and support arrival and dismissal timesMay be required to work the summer programMaintain student confidentialityCarry out other assignments designated by the PrincipalRequired Skills, Experience, Competencies: High school degree or equivalentOne or more years of experience in a similar roleMust be available to work summersExhibits the core values of Shrewsbury Public SchoolsAcademic knowledge of the grade level supportedEnjoys children and is dedicated to the education of all childrenWorks flexibly in a changing environmentPhysical Demands and Work Environment: While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to effectively communicateThe employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, climb, runThe employee must occasionally be able to lift and/or safely move children/objectsThe employee must be able to work in a noisy, stressful, high-pressure environment, and still be able to concentrate and keep children safeAbility to respond to emergency situations (e.g. injured student, fights, behavior problems, abusive students, etc.)May be exposed to bodily fluids including saliva, urine, feces, vomit, blood, and/or other bodily fluidsThe job is performed under conditions with exposure to risk of injury and/or illness, although in a clean environmentAssists medically fragile or physically disabled students for the purpose of maintaining students personal hygieneAssists students with physical and/or cognitive disabilities with grooming, feeding, toileting, diapering.The physical demands described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
