Job description

The Enterprise Operations Applied Artificial Intelligence Team is looking for an AI Machine Learning Manager who will provide functional and technical leadership to a team of Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning engineers. The ideal candidate will possess passion for conceptualizing, building, testing and maturing AI systems.
The selected candidate will lead a team focused on the research, development and deployment of AI/ML technologies that intersect advancements in reinforcement learning, representation learning, neuroscience and game-theory and apply them to several applications including but not limited to wargaming, operations analysis (OA) and embodied intelligence. The selected candidate will lead a range of projects including short-term sprints (rapid prototyping) and long-term engagements (integration, maturation of prototypes) and will be responsible for the technical execution of AI system development and integration activities for several programs simultaneously. The chosen candidate will be engaged in system development activities throughout the entire project life cycle, including requirements generation, system and software design, implementation, integration and flight test while ensuring the appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools are applied on assigned programs. This candidate will apply technical standards, principles, theories, concepts and techniques in the software field to develop tangible, differentiated and meaningful solutions aimed at significantly enhancing the sustainment of complex systems and enabling future hyper-battlespace capabilities.
From a functional perspective, the candidate will provide career development & guidance, perform merit and salary actions, develop training plans, and support recruiting, hiring and staffing activities.
In addition, the selected candidate will support the development of product line road maps, pursue new business opportunities, and assist in new business captures.
The candidate must exhibit self-motivation, a strong work ethic, time management and interpersonal skills.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or other related discipline
  • Proven leadership experience in engineering assignments and successful proven results in leading and executing on software intensive programs
  • General knowledge of Agile principles
  • Proven experience leading virtual teams
  • Strong and proven understanding of the engineering development process
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Excellent communication skills
Desired Skills:
  • Experience architecting complex systems
  • Experience establishing complex system requirements
  • Experience defining system interface points for integration with other systems
  • Eperience with Model Based Systems Engineering
  • Experience conducting and publishing research at academic conferences and journals
  • Experience managing doctoral-level researchers in AI/ML
  • Experience with AI methods and approaches such as: Reinforcement Learning, Representation Learning, Neuro-Symbolic AI and Multi-Agent Systems.
  • Experience with Modeling & Simulation, Operations Analysis (OA) and Wargaming
  • Experience with robotics, embodied intelligence and advanced perception.
  • Familiarity with modern Software Engineering practices and AI/ML paradigms
  • Active security clearance

Ability to Work Remotely: Part-time Remote Telework: The employee selected for this position will work part of their work schedule remotely and part of their work schedule at a designated Lockheed Martin facility. The specific weekly schedule will be discussed during the hiring process.
Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
Schedule for this Position: 4x10 hour day, 3 days off per week
