QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Must be certified by the state of South Dakota
2. Ability to interact effectively with parents, school district personnel, and representatives of other agencies.
3. At least one year of teaching or intern experience working in a classroom environment preferred.
4. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO: Principal or Principals
RESPONSIBILITY: He/She is responsible for the students assigned to him/her. Teaches the students assigned to them using the curricular resources approved by the school board and/or school Administrator.
JOB GOAL: To provide students academic, social, and motor skills. Plans, directs, and evaluates learning experiences for the students in conformity with school district policy, mission and school building goals.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law, administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
2. Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt to the needs of each student.
3. Translates lesson plans into learning experiences to best utilize the available time for instruction.
4. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning environment in the classroom.
5. Evaluates students' academic and social growth, maintains appropriate records, and prepares progress reports and/or report cards.
6. Communicates with parent and guardians through conferences and other means to discuss students' progress and interpret explains the school program.
7. Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
8. Creates an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers.
9. Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities.
10. Selects and requisitions instructional materials and supplies and maintains required inventory records.
11. Supervises students in and out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
12. Administers group standardized tests in accordance with district testing policies.
13. Participates in curriculum professional development programs as required.
14. Participates in faculty committees.
15. Other assigned duties by supervisor.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work year will be established by the Oglala Lakota County School Board.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated by the assigned Building Principal.
CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK: All employees in contact with children must submit to and pass the required criminal background check and drug test.
