Job description

Job Description: Pond Cove Elementary School has an opening for a 3rd Grade Teacher (long-term substitute) to cover a Maternity Leave beginning March 2023 through June 2023. We seek an organized, flexible individual who is capable of forming strong, positive relationships with elementary age students. Pond Cove is a large elementary school with 550 students in grades K-4 and 100 staff. Pond Cove is a high performing school with expectations of excellence and rigor in all areas of an educator's professional practice. 
The successful candidate will join a team of five other third-Grade Teachers (total of six). This role includes planning, designing, and delivering engaging and hands-on lessons and implementing assessments to measure student growth and progress across all curriculum areas, including reading, math, social studies, and science. Teaching third-grade at Pond Cove will require learning or having experience with the Lucy Calkins Units of Study for reading and writing, and Everyday Math. We also utilize DreamBox, IXL, and Lexia as supplemental online tools that provide students with additional practice in literacy and math content areas. The position includes covering student recesses and/or lunches, attending staff meetings twice a month (on Wednesdays) and collaborating with a large number of colleagues including school social workers, school counselors, special educators, extended learning coaches, and building principals. 
Paid time to meet students and families, and shadow and plan with the current teacher prior to their leave will be available to ensure a smooth transition for all. 
Certification Requirements: Maine Elementary Teaching (020)

    • Everyday Mathematics
    • Lucy Calkins' Units of Study for Teaching Writing, Reading, and Phonics
    • NWEA and DRA assessments

    • Response to Intervention (RTI)
  • Build a community of learners who respect and care for each other
  • Provide students with engaging, hands-on, and high-interest lessons/learning opportunities 
  • Meet student needs, including social-emotional, academic, and behavior
  • Share ownership of students for all aspects of learning and fulfill supervision duties (e.g., recess, lunch, etc.)
  • Pivot quickly when changes happen (e.g., schedule changes, support and attend school assemblies and events, fulfill coverage needs, etc.)
