2nd Shift = 3pm -11pm

3rd Shift = 11pm - 7am

*Due to Union bumping rights, applicants must have shift flexibility*


2nd Shift premium = $1.80/hr

3rd shift premium = $1.25/hr


SUMMARY

Personnel is responsible for the verification and staging of tubing requiring secondary operation. The Laser Operator performs the following duties:


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Reads work order and follows oral instructions to ascertain material or containers to be moved.
  • Checks job specifications on shop orders and in WIP system; verifies staged material tag numbers matches material number on master shop orders.
  • Conveys materials from storage or work site to designated area, and places materials with forklift or crane onto load table. Makes sure staged material/packaging matches shop order material number/packaging requirements.
  • Operates industrial truck, crane or electric hoist to assist in loading or moving materials and products.
  • Set up and operates Laser machinery. Begins Laser auto operations when change over operations are complete. Checks shop order for customer, quantity ordered, material/packaging requirements, tube characteristics and any special quality notes.
  • Documents information on Daily Finishing Production Report or WIP. Enters measurement results in WIP or manual Finishing Quality Check Sheet and attach to orders upon completion.
  • Performs visual inspection of all material for nonconforming conditions, i.e., scratches marks, burrs, weld splits, roll marks, forklift damage, rust, dents, end cut conditions, missing holes or slots, or any other physical defects.
  • Performs dimensional inspection of all material ensuring all critical and minor product characteristics as defined on the shop order or customer prints meet contract requirements. Ensures all measurements are within the specifications and tolerances limits. Measures tubing length on digital veneer, or set fixtures/gages. Measures inside diameter (when specified on shop order), gauge thickness, and outside diameter, slot and/or hole positions and size. Enters pass/fail in WIP. Print and tag with appropriate inventory numbers.
  • Scraps any nonconforming product. Makes an adjustment to machines until product is acceptable.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.


QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or three to six months related manufacturing experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.


REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.


CERTIFICATES. LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Certified Forklift Training, Certified Crane Training.


OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITES

Ability to operate machinery, Laser. Ability to use measuring equipment, hand tools, digital readout veneer and plug gauges. Knowledge of carton packaging and lift operations.

Physical requirements for this position include

  • Stand for long periods of time during your shift.
  • Bend and stoop consistently during the day.
  • Lift and/or carry 25 - 50 pounds regularly during your shift.
  • Wear proper safety equipment, steel-toed shoes with skid resistant soles, safety glasses, hearing protection, etc.
  • Grip, grasp or twist using your hands and wrists regularly during your shift.
  • Work a twelve-hour shift, if required.
  • Understand hazardous communication and safety information.
  • Climb stairs with loads during your shift, if required.
  • Operate hand-held power tools, if required.
  • Monitor quality of work through mathematical calculations and/or measuring, if required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. The employee must wear Personal Protective Equipment and be safety conscious.
