Position Description: The Equipment Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient operation of Heavy Equipment including fork trucks, front end loaders, vacuum truck, metal drum shredder, excavator and a facility street sweeper. This position is responsible for the movement of the refuse on the tipping floor and will maintain safe and efficient truck traffic flow through the tipping floor area. Equipment operators perform daily preventative maintenance tasks required for the upkeep and operation of various assigned equipment, and other assigned tasks.
Responsibilities include:
Direct refuse trucks to ensure safe and efficient traffic flow
Move refuse in accordance with site procedures
Off-loading of box van trailers
Perform daily inspections on mobile equipment including front-end loaders and forklifts
Conduct and document refuse inspections for unacceptable waste
Unload supplemental waste using a forklift
Separate and load white goods
Comply with Corporate and OSHA Safety Rules and Regulations
Maintain good housekeeping practices
Familiarity with emergency procedures
Position Requirements: This position requires knowledge of operating Heavy Equipment as well as a valid driver’s license. Related industrial plant experience is a plus.
Schedule for this position is second shift hours from 3:30 PM to 12:00 AM.
Must be able to work in all locations within the plant, under extremes of hot and cold, and in areas of dust, noise and wet conditions. Must be able to wear a respirator, climb a ladder to access equipment and work from heights using fall protection, lift heavy objects and other manual labor to including pushing, pulling, sweeping and shoveling. Covanta is a smoke free worksite.
The expected hourly pay rate for this position is $25.35.
This is a good-faith estimate of what we expect to pay for this position. The final salary figure will take into account a variety of factors including experience, ability and location. Covanta is committed to paying its staff equitably, and these ranges should not be considered career salary limits or caps.
