Job description

Job Title: Head Football Coach/Campus Coordinator
Reports to: Athletic Director/HS Principal
Dept./School: Athletics / High School
Exemption Status: Exempt
Primary Purpose:
Direct and manage the overall football program grades 7-12. Provide strong leadership and support to the entire athletic program at Midway High School by assisting with the management of athletic coaches and programs, athletic facilities, and fundraising activities under the direct supervision of the Athletic Director and High School Principal. Assume responsibility for maintaining a cooperation and harmony among all phases of the athletic programs, the school district, and the community. Establish an environment that emphasizes academic success, and actively supports and contributes towards the educational goals established for students of Midway High School.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
College degree required; Texas certification preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Ability to develop a successful football program from the middle school through high school level;
Knowledge of overall operations of athletic programs;
Strong communications, public relations and interpersonal skills;
Ability to interpret policy, procedures, and data;
Knowledge of district, state, and UIL policies governing athletics
Experience:
Minimum of 5 years coaching experience with at least 3 years of successful playoff experience as a head varsity Football Coach or coordinator at the 4A - 6A level.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Strategies
1. Directs the overall football program to meet the needs of students in an equitable manner.
2. Evaluates student progress on a regular, systematic basis, and the findings are used to make the football program more effective.
3. Dedicates appropriate time, resources, and materials to support educational goals of Midway ISD.
4. Maintains a successful and active program that promotes good sportsmanship and student development.
School/Organizational Climate
5. Promotes a safe, positive, and compassionate climate for learning.
6. Deals sensitively and fairly with persons from diverse cultural backgrounds.
7. Encourages, by example and through instruction, sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletics and off-the-field activities.
8. Promotes collegiality, teamwork, and participatory decision making among coaching staff members of all sports.
School/Organizational Improvement
9. Assists the Athletic Director in the overall planning, organizing, and implementation of the athletic program and athletic events as assigned.
10. Contributes to the recommendation of sound policies directed toward program improvement.
11. Ensures that the vision of athletics supports and aligns with the greater goals of academic achievement.
12. Ensures that the program renewal is continuous and responsive to student needs.
Personnel Management
13. Provides leadership in developing coaches as teachers of students and models for students.
14. Provides effective staff development, develops training options, and/or improvement plans to ensure effective and successful operation in the area of athletics.
15. Consults with the athletic director and high school principal regarding all personnel recommendations for placement, transfer, retention, and/or dismissal.
Administration and Fiscal/Facilities Management
16. Implements the policies established by federal law, state law, SBEC rule, UIL rules, and local board policy in the area of athletics.
17. Assists with the management of the campus athletic program and facilities under the direction of the athletic director and high school principal.
18. Ensures that program funds are cost effective and funds are managed prudently.
19. Prepares budgets and cost estimates based on documented program needs.
20. Assumes responsibility for compiling, maintaining, and filing all reports, records, and other documents required.
Student Management:
21. Demonstrates support for the district's student management policies and expected student behavior.
22. Establishes and maintains open lines of communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, teachers, and administrators concerning important issues.
Professional Growth and Development:
23. Takes initiative to develop needed professional skills appropriate to job assignment.
24. Demonstrates behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible, and serves as a role model for all district staff.
School/Community Relations
25. Articulates the district's mission and goals in the area of athletics to the community and organizations, and solicits support in the implementation of the mission and goals.
26. Demonstrates awareness of the district and community needs and initiates activities to meet those identified needs.
27. Demonstrates the use of appropriate and effective techniques for community and parent involvement.
28. Assists the Athletic Director in developing a public relations program designed to keep patrons informed and interested in the programs and accomplishments of high school athletics.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Assist the Athletic Director, as assigned, with the evaluation of the performance of coaches and support staff assigned to the area of athletics.
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals.
Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
Motion: Frequent walking.
Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds).
Environment: Work inside and outside; exposure to noise.
Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours.
