Job description

Job Objective:
The Hilcorp Alaska Integrity Team supports the Alaska Asset Teams in efficient, safe, and reliable production of energy. Hilcorp's Alaska assets include both Onshore and Offshore Production Facilities located on the Kenai Peninsula and in Prudhoe Bay.
As a member of the Integrity team, the Mechanical Integrity Engineer will work within a team of Engineers and Facility Inspectors to set inspection strategies, perform fitness for service assessments, provide engineering repair solutions and identify key safety or reliability threats across each of the assets. This role primarily focuses on well lines, plant piping, vessels and tanks.

  • Essential Job Responsibilities:
  • Define equipment integrity management strategies that conform to industry standards.
  • Work with corrosion/materials engineers and Facility Inspectors to understand equipment integrity threats and develop effective inspection strategies.
  • Continuously improve strategies based on new inspection technologies, newly identified threats, and prior inspection results to gain inspection efficiency.
  • Work with piping and equipment inspectors to develop specific plans for inspecting equipment.
  • Analyze inspection results and draw conclusions to inform further inspection or maintenance activities.
  • Review NDT/inspection reports and assesses equipment damage for fitness for service. Work with Operations personnel to adjust operating parameters and communicate increases in risk to operation.
  • Develop solutions to modify operation, repair or replace equipment that are fit for purpose given the damage mechanism, equipment criticality and risk to operation.
  • Develop repair plans for equipment utilizing industry standards. This includes developing and reviewing engineering construction packages, working with repair vendors, specifying equipment purchases and supporting maintenance execution crews to safely execute work.
  • Prioritize equipment inspection and repair activities in alignment with the overall Asset operating strategy. Assesses inspection and maintenance activities based on overall risk and value and work with the Asset Teams to prioritize activities accordingly.
  • Provide support to Asset Teams and Projects Team, as needed, for design/selection of piping/tanks/vessels in support of new facility installations.
  • Work to ensure that all documentation related to area of discipline is retained in the electronic document management system.
  • Regularly interact with Asset Teams and other Support Groups to understand impacts to operations, ensure programs and processes are in alignment, communicate key metrics and demonstrate value.
  • Prepare annual budgets, track and forecast costs, manage scope, and deliver schedule for projects related to primary scope of work.
  • Hold self and others accountable for accomplishing tasks on time and budget.

  • Other Job Responsibilities:
  • Demonstrate value to operations and asset team personnel.
  • Collaborate with operations, inspections, and maintenance personnel to plan and prepare integrity activities in conjunction with facility operations.
  • Maintain a service-oriented attitude to develop strategies and complete work scope that support asset team goals while achieving compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Maintain employee confidence and protect company assets, including intellectual property, by keeping information confidential.
  • Maintain technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional associations.
  • Other duties as directed by management.

  • Qualifications:
  • Three (3) years minimum experience in Inspection, Mechanical Integrity Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Facility Engineering or comparable field.
  • Working knowledge of ASME B31 Piping Design Codes; ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Codes, API Inspection Codes.
  • Knowledge of fitness-for-service criteria, e.g. ANSI B31G, RSTRENG, API 579
  • Familiar with common industry NDE follow-up inspection techniques and their application.
  • Proficient in the use and application of the following software:
    • Required: Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and Outlook), Power Point
    • Preferred: Pipe Stress Analysis Software - API 579 FFS Software - PCMS
  • Ability to complete multiple, diverse tasks of differing priorities.
  • Proficient in organization and data management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with specific ability to translate complex information into an organized and presentable manner.
  • Ability to maintain a positive, professional and solutions-oriented approach with employees, coworkers, supervisors, other departments, officials, and the public.
  • The successful candidate will demonstrate that they can take ownership of job responsibilities and hold themselves accountable for successful completion.
  • Able to be available 24 hours per day (if required for emergency support, on call support, etc.).
  • This position requires travel (up to 25%) to field facilities and other offices, as well as periodic work in outdoor and industrial facility environments to validate field conditions and maintain good working rapport with operations personnel.
  • Education Requirements:
  • Required: Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering
  • Preferred: Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited four-year university or college.
