POSITION: #FPSUMAMSG21374 - Summer School Elementary Teacher
DATES: June 24, 2024-July 18, 2024 (Monday-Thursday)
No school July 4, 2024
HOURS: 70 total hours ( 56 instruction, 6 prep, 8 setup/cleanup)
LOCATION: Amistad Elementary School (5 positions)
Southgate Elementary School (5 positions)

Required Qualifications:
1. Valid Washington State teacher's certificate appropriate for elementary
2. Endorsement in Elementary Education
3. Satisfactory evaluations
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Successful experience working with elementary children and experience with Imagine! and the remedial reading program.
2. Able to demonstrate knowledge of effective methods of instruction and classroom management.
3. Teachers must demonstrate knowledge of reading curriculum and ability to teach reading grades K-4.
4. Punctual and consistent attendance.
Job Responsibilities:
1. Provide curriculum and research-based instruction and activities designed to increase communication skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) and math instruction for students who are not performing at grade level.
2. Pre-test all students to determine instruction level and post-test all students to determine growth.
3. Assess and teach phonemic awareness, spelling, reading, comprehension, and integrated writing.
4. Maintain necessary records such as daily lesson plans, attendance, assessments, and requested reports as necessary for efficient procedures and evaluation.
5. Attend and participate in program and staff meetings designed to assist in conducting a strong Summer School program.
6. Cooperate with other members of the staff in planning instructional goals, objectives and methods.
7. Establish and maintain cooperative and positive professional relationships with other staff members.
8. Prepare for and participate in parent involvement activities.
9. Plan for and supervise paraeducators.
10. Maintain an orderly, positive classroom atmosphere.
11. Be discreet and confidential with all school related information.
12. Implement the requirements of IDEA Section 504 and ADA in the education of students.
13. Complete Time and Effort sheets, as well as time verification forms, when needed.
14. Other duties as assigned by the Summer School Administrator.

Mobility: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time, push or pull 18-26 lbs., sit, kneel and crouch, twist and bend, use hands to type, finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arm.
Sense: The employee is required to talk/hear conversations and other sounds. The employee must be able to communicate effectively in person and over the telephone. The employee is required to taste and smell. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, far vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Lifting: The employee must be able to lift or move up to 10 lbs. regularly and occasionally up to 26 lbs; must also be able to lift overhead. The employee may be required to physically move quickly in an emergency or while performing student supervision duties.

Physical Hazards: While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to work outdoors in a wide variety of temperatures; from -10 degrees F to 100 degrees F +. The employee may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in this work environment is moderate.

Application Procedure: In-District staff must complete an internal online application by 10:00 p.m. (PST) on or before the closing date. In-building/In-district staff will have eight school days, or eight working days during the summer to apply for a vacant position through the online application system. The employee may choose but will not be required to meet with the building administrator to understand the building practices, procedures and initiatives specific to the position to which they are applying. After eight days if an in-building employee is qualified for the position, the principal will offer the employee the position. In the case that more than one in-building employee is interested in a position, the position will be offered to the qualified and senior employee. If a position is not filled in-building after the eight day period, the position will be offered to the qualified, most senior in-district applicant, if any. Teachers with a summative evaluation score of 1 or 2 are not eligible to transfer unless agreed upon by the District and Association.
Out-of-District applicants must complete the online District application and attach a letter of interest, resume, valid Washington state teaching credential, and copies of transcripts with degree posted. All hires are subject to completion of a satisfactory criminal background check.
