POSITION: #SUMTT21279 Summer Skills Academy Pre-Veterinary

Technician Instructor, temporary position contingent upon enrollment


LOCATION: Tri-Tech Skills Center


DATES: 06/14/2024-07/02/2024


TIMES: 7:30am-3:45pm


HOURS: 124 total hours (93 class hours, 31 prep hours)


POSITION OPENS: 02/15/2024


POSITION CLOSES: 02/28/2024


Required Qualifications:

1. Washington State Career and Technical Education Teaching Certificate with an endorsement in Veterinary Assisting.

2. Registered Veterinary Technician with 6,000 hours of related work experience.

3. Current first aid/CPR or ability to obtain certification before the start of class.

4. Satisfactory Evaluations


Qualifications Preferred:

1. Successful recent experience (in the last 2 years) teaching Pre-Veterinary Tech.

2. Demonstrated teaching ability in Veterinary Technology.

3. Demonstrated success or training in providing leadership and guidance to the youth leadership requirements of the program.

4. Evidence of teacher training or experience which reflects interactive student-centered instruction, using technology and real world applications to enhance teaching and learning.

5. Evidence of experience working with program advisory committee and community partners.

6. Demonstrated ability to use/learn computer technology for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, electronic grading and attendance, communication by e-mail, and ability to implement computer skills into daily classroom instruction.

7. Evidence of satisfactory experience in curriculum development, classroom management, and organization for routine detail.

8. Punctual and consistent attendance.


Job Description:

The successful candidate will be expected to:

1. Teach the Tri-Tech Pre-Veterinary Tech summer program in alignment with state approved course frameworks.

2. Work cooperatively with other staff to align program competencies and expectations with district approved program standards and state approved frameworks.

3. Teach and assess safety within the curricular program.

4. Motivate and instruct students of all ability levels with emphasis on providing for their individual learning styles.

5. Maintain open communication with parents, students, staff and administration.

6. Believe diversity is a strength and have the attitude that we will meet the needs of any child who enters our school.

7. Maintain program budget and participate in annual program planning.

8. Integrate business and community partnerships to enhance student learning.

9. Be flexible and cooperative in schedule changes and accommodating changes in facility use.

10. Establish a safe, welcoming, and purposeful learning environment for all students, colleagues, families, and guests.

11. Use/learn computer technology i.e. Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, electronic grading and attendance, communication by e-mail, and ability to implement computer skills into daily classroom instruction.

12. Implement the requirements of IDEA, Section 504, and ADA in the education of students with disabilities.

Sense: The employee is required to talk/hear conversations and other sounds. The employee must be able to communicate effectively in person and over the telephone. The employee is required to taste and smell. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, far vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.


Lifting: The employee must be able to lift or move up to 10 lbs. regularly and occasionally up to 26 lbs; must also be able to lift overhead. The employee may be required to physically move quickly in an emergency or while performing student supervision duties.

Physical Hazards: While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to work outdoors in a wide variety of temperatures; from -10 degrees F to 100 degrees F +. The employee may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in this work environment is moderate.


Application Procedure: In-District staff must complete an internal online application by 10:00 p.m. (PST) on or before the closing date. In-building/In-district staff will have eight school days, or eight working days during the summer to apply for a vacant position through the online application system. The employee may choose but will not be required to meet with the building administrator to understand the building practices, procedures and initiatives specific to the position to which they are applying. After eight days if an in-building employee is qualified for the position, the principal will offer the employee the position. In the case that more than one in-building employee is interested in a position, the position will be offered to the qualified and senior employee. If a position is not filled in-building after the eight day period, the position will be offered to the qualified, most senior in-district applicant, if any. Teachers with a summative evaluation score of 1 or 2 are not eligible to transfer unless agreed upon by the District and Association.


Out-of-District applicants must complete the online District application and attach a letter of interest, resume, valid Washington state teaching credential, and copies of transcripts with degree posted. All hires are subject to completion of a satisfactory criminal background check.
