POSITION: School Nurse
GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION: Does vision and hearing screenings; makes throat and dental inspections; assists at immunization clinics and keeps immunization records; contacts parents concerning health problems of children; visits the home to check on condition of children; refers children to health and social agencies where appropriate; assists in health education programs conducted in the schools; keeps schools supplied with first aid equipment; travels with school band and other groups on field trips; keeps records and makes reports.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from a recognized school of nursing. Possession of a license to practice as a registered nurse in the State of West Virginia and possession of a BSN degree.
Good knowledge of the principles, practices, methods, techniques and equipment used in nursing; some knowledge of material medica. Ability to apply nursing principles and practices to the area of school nursing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with others, ability to keep records and prepare reports.
FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Under general supervision, is responsible for school nursing duties of average difficulty; and performs related work as required. The School Nurse is responsible to the Director of Student Services through the office of the school principal.
