YMCA Camp Wiyaka General Counselor

A counselor will live in a platform tent with campers who are grouped together by age. The counselor is directly responsible for the physical and emotional safety of their campers - this is their top priority. When there are no safety concerns to be addressed, the counselor should be interacting with their campers in an effort to facilitate the building of camper to camper friendships. The behavior and appearance of a counselor should model the behavior we desire from the campers and be consistent with the values and mission of the YMCA.
Qualifications
➤At least 17 years old at start of staff week
➤Clean criminal background check
➤Clear drug screening
➤Willingness to follow instruction
➤A desire to improve
➤Ability to interact positively with all age levels
➤In good health (physical from doctor required)
Duties
➤Live in a tent with campers
➤Ensure the physical and emotional safety of the campers
➤Regularly interact with the campers
➤Assist in program areas as assigned
➤Various other duties as assigned
Reports
The General Counselor reports to all members of the Senior Staff team (Program Director, Waterfront Director, Trip Coordinator, Assistant Director and Camp Director) as well as the Program Counselor at whatever program area they are assigned to.
Physical Aspects
➤Ability to communicate orally and in writing
➤Visual and auditory ability to identify hazards
➤Ability to respond appropriately to an emergency
➤Activities may require: Prolonged standing, bending, stooping, walking, running, hiking, climbing or stretching and prolonged exposure to outdoor elements.
➤Hand eye coordination and manual dexterity to operate equipment
➤Ability to lift 50 lbs
➤Long work hours with minimal breaks
Job Types: Full-time, Temporary
Pay: $300.00 - $400.00 per week
Schedule:
- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed

- Childcare: 1 year (Preferred)
