Provides instruction in locating, analyzing, and effectively using information resources for all curriculum needs.
Collaborates and partners with teaching staff to deliver ongoing instruction in the acquisition of information literacy skills tied to the APS curriculum.
Encourages students and teachers to maximize the use of information in various formats, electronic as well as print, and promotes the ethical use of information technology.
Customizes instruction to serve diverse learning populations through varying instructional activities.
Integrates fiction and nonfiction works into lesson design.
Is knowledgeable about literature for children and young adults
Motivates students to appreciate reading as a lifelong activity.
Provides orientation and training to all students and staff concerning library services and resources, including the use of all features of the APS OPAC, Follett Destiny
Previous experience with managing a library and working as a school librarian
Experience working with a diverse population of learners
Masters in Library Science or equivalent; school library teaching certificate
Familiarity with the Follett Destiny library software
Familiarity with the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOLs)
Familiarity with the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) National School Library Standards
Familiarity with Dewey Decimal shelving order
Ability to develop literacy and media literacy lessons that support the Virginia SOLs
Strong interpersonal, collaboration and technology skills

Summer School Teachers who are APS employees during the year will be paid the hourly rate or $35.52 per hour., whichever is higher. (Please note Salary earned relative to Summer School employment will not be included in the employee’s creditable compensation amount reported to the Virginia Retirement System (VRS).) Retired APS teachers will be paid $47.73 per hour per APS pay plan. Non-APS licensed Summer School teachers will be paid $35.52 per hour. If you resign effective the last day of the school year, you will receive a flat rate of $35.52 per hour for teachers.
