2024 WooSox Summer Internship Program

The Worcester Red Sox are looking for highly motivated individuals and team players to gain experience working in many departments of their front office during the 2024 baseball season. This is a part-time internship that includes working during the daytime, nights, weekends, and holidays. The WooSox Internship Program is a comprehensive academic and professional experience that aims to help students develop the skills they need to build a career in the sports and entertainment industry. Although interns will be matched with a specific department, they will have the invaluable opportunity to assist within multiple departments under the guidance of various leaders.

Department Descriptions:

Community Relations Intern:

Responsibilities:

· Facilitate and respond to in-kind donation requests that the WooSox receive from accredited non-profits throughout the region.

· Assist with planning and implementation of community events during the season at Polar Park.

· Provide support to all community and WooSox Foundation programming that the club runs on game days and while the team is on the road as needed.

· Build and manage relationships with non-profit organizations in Worcester and across New England.

· Provide assistance with Saturday Youth Clinics and other WooSox player community appearances that arise during WooSox homestands.

· Have the availability to work flexible hours and weekends as needed during homestands.

Ticket Sales and Services Intern:

Looking for 2 interns to join the Ticket Team for Summer 2024. The Ticket Department Interns will gain the skills and confidence to make sales both over the phone and in face-to-face meetings, in addition to playing a key role in enhancing the experience of groups and Season Ticket Members. These interns will contribute to meeting department sales goals and provide hands-on support during games at Polar Park to continuously improve the fan experience.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

1. Learn the Ultimate Toolkit ticket sales process.

2. Prospect for sales leads and build lead lists for sales reps.

3. Sell group tickets through outbound cold calling and face-to-face meetings.

4. Provide exceptional customer service to clients and all fans leading up to and on the day of their game.

5. Learn to be proficient using Tickets.com and Score CRM.

6. Aid with all WooSox Group Sales Theme/Promotional Nights, including event logistics and giveaway distribution.

7. Distribute tickets as needed (season, suite, group, & hospitality).

8. Assist with communication to Season Ticket Members, Suite Holders, and Mini Plan Holders regarding their plans and benefits.

9. Assist in planning and execution of Season Ticket Member gifts and benefits.

10. Assist with department events: On-Field Batting Practices, Movie Nights, Trade Shows, Scout Nights, etc.

11. Work Season Ticket Member services table at WooSox home games.

12. Solicit feedback from members and groups to learn more about their experiences.

13. Develop Season Ticket Member monthly newsletter ideas to build engagement with members.

14. Other duties and special projects as assigned.

Corporate Partnerships Intern:

Reporting to the Senior Director of Client Services, the Corporate Partnership interns will assist and support the corporate partnership team with client activations while helping to enhance the fan experience.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

· Assist with the organization and implementation of game night partner related activities, promotions, and events at each home game.

· Engage with partners and fans to ensure a positive game experience.

· Provide behind-the-scenes tours and private batting practice viewings to fans and partners throughout the season.

· Shoot and organize photos of partnership assets and activations throughout the season in preparation of mid-season and end-of-year proofs of performance.

· Assist with department events: Private Batting Practices, Partner Appreciation Events, etc.

· Distribute all corporate partnership tickets (season, suite, group, & hospitality) if need be.

· Create and distribute homestand report with the goal of providing a high-level overview of corporate guests each game.

· Create and distribute weekly Corporate Partnership Newsletter to all Corporate Partners.

· Other duties as assigned.

Polar Park Events Intern:

Responsibilities:

· Assist with the execution of non-game day private and public events at Polar Park.

· Support private event clients before, during, and after events such as setup and breakdown, special requests, and other tasks as requested.

· Serve in several roles during public events, such as overseeing registration, ID’ing guests for 21+ events, interacting with vendors, and shadowing the Vice President or Manager of Special Events, etc.

· Contribute to the planning and coordination of internal Polar Park Events, such as Season Ticket Member Movie Night, Corporate Partner Family Day, and Batting Practices.

· Attend event sales and services meetings and site visits in an effort to gain a general knowledge of the special event process from start to finish.

· Support all other departments on an as-needed basis during Worcester Red Sox homestands.

· Research event market and analyze data to develop warm leads for special event sales.

Merchandise Intern:

WooSox Merch Intern will work closely with the Director of Merchandise and Merchandise Manager in maintaining and improving one of the best retail brick-and-mortar and online stores in all of Minor League Baseball. As the Merch Intern, the job will encompass the roles of a Team Store Associate and the occasional role of Manager-On-Duty. Additional duties in the Team Store or Polar Park may be assigned.

Additional Functions: They will work in conjunction with other Store Team Associates in ensuring a safe, fun and friendly environment for all customers, staff and stakeholders of the WooSox, both within the Team Store and throughout Polar Park.

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

· Managing the inventory control processes in partnership with store management, alone or with a team of people, both in-season and out.

· Receiving all new receipts, including counting, processing (tagging/labeling) and storage.

· Displaying and rotating products in a visually appealing way on the salesfloor.

· Process and ship internet orders daily.

· Work with other departments to fulfill merchandise needs.

· Maintain and restock the team store daily.

· Other duties as assigned by the internship coordinator.

Manager-On-Duty Functions:

· Occasionally running all store operations as a Manager-on-Duty in the absence of the Merchandise Manager or Director of Merchandise, to include by not limited to the following functions:

· Opening and closing the store, ensuring all assets (staff, merchandise, money, etc.,) are safe and secured properly.

· Ability to prioritize, coach and delegate to Team Store associates to ensure all above duties are held in compliance.

· Some de-escalation and safety training will be necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:

· Must be able to work a flexible schedule with the Merchandise Manager and Director of Merchandise which will guarantee all store operations, both in-season and out, will be maintained.

· May include working some openings, closings, nights, weekends, and occasional holidays, especially during the season

· Willingness to learn how to operate computers, cash register and other devices

· Ability to work outside (under shelter) in various weather conditions, for the Team Store or other departments within Polar Park collaboratively Skills & Abilities:

· Ability to stand up for 3+ hours at a time and lift 25+ pounds and/or ask for assistance to complete strenuous tasks.

· High attention-to-detail and ability to juggle competing priorities.

· Excellent collaboration and problem-solving skills.

· Excellent customer service skills and a passion for Polar Park/Worcester Red Sox!

Preferred Skills:

· Bilingual, multilingual, and/or fluent in ASL.

Marketing & Promotions:

Social Media & Advertising Intern:

This position has a split report to the Manager, Social Media and the VP, Marketing. This person will work closely with the Manager of Social Media to create and execute the club’s social media strategy, including live WooSox game updates, community outreach efforts, and partnership assets. This person will also work closely with the VP of Marketing to coordinate creative updates for advertising assets, such as television spots, radio spots, print ads, digital ads, etc.

Responsibilities:

1. Captures photo and video of various club and ballpark elements for creative use on social media and for paid advertisements.

2. Executes the social media calendar at the direction of the Manager of Social Media, adding creative input and design along the way.

3. Creatively notifies fans via social media on live game updates, roster moves, team milestones, and other baseball-related news.

4. Works with Corporate Partnership team to properly execute partnership elements and tag partners on social when necessary.

5. Attends community events at which the WooSox have a presence in order to creatively capture efforts for distribution.

6. Keeps detailed records of available advertising assets, such as television spots, radio spots, print ads, digital ads, etc.

7. Works closely with the VP of Marketing to update paid advertising assets in a timely manner to accurately reflect most recent club initiatives and messaging.

8. Works with various departments within the organization to assist with ways in which social media can better serve key shareholders, including fans, partners, and on-field personnel.

9. Any additional responsibilities may from time to time be assigned to you by VP of Marketing or Manager of Social Media.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Experience with photography and videography.

2. Experience with Adobe Photoshop required.

3. Experience with Adobe Illustrator or Adobe InDesign a plus.

4. General knowledge of TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn.

5. Impeccable writing ability.

6. Knowledge of baseball personnel and rules.

7. Bilingual a plus (Spanish).

8. Extremely organized.

9. Extremely attentive to detail.

WooSox Rewards & Regionalization Intern:

This position is a member of the WooSox Marketing Team, with an emphasis on WooSox Rewards and Regionalization.

Responsibilities:

1. Works closely with members of the WooSox Marketing Team to execute WooSox Rewards initiatives.

2. Assists in the creation and execution of communication to WooSox Rewards members through social media, email, and the WooSox Rewards FanMaker application.

3. Assists with creative materials for WooSox Rewards.

4. Helps manage WooSox Rewards by fielding customer service inquiries, executing experiences and events, redeeming benefits for members, boosting membership, etc.

5. Develops ways to enhance fan experience and engagement through incentivizing WooSox Rewards members to partake in surveys that gauge feedback.

6. Serves as point person at WooSox Rewards Headquarters for WooSox games at Polar Park.

7. Assists with the gameday planning and execution of all 2024 Town Takeover elements at Polar Park.

8. Participates in community outreach efforts in relation to WooSox regionalization efforts, including suiting up as Smiley, Woofster, Roberto the Rocket, or other mascots when necessary.

9. Seeks out and attends various promotional opportunities in relation to WooSox regionalization efforts, including, but not limited to, various “Town Days” in Central MA, and The Eastern States Exposition (The Big E) located in West Springfield, MA.

10. Helps to maintain detailed records of various regionalization efforts.

11. Analyzes regionalization efforts through measurable goals (i.e. ticket sales per town).

12. Assists with writing and distribution of articles that highlight various WooSox regionalization efforts.

13. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Experience with Adobe Photoshop is a plus.

2. Knowledge of Central Massachusetts and larger New England.

3. Impeccable writing ability.
