Precision Medicine Pathology Internship Overview

This internship opportunity is in the Immunohistochemistry (IHC) group within Precision Medicine Pathology. This department plays a key role in the identification and validation of novel targets that present disease selective dependencies. Under supervision of a senior research scientist in the group, the intern will provide support to the histology laboratory with histology tasks related to specimen processing and preparation of microscopic slides.
Key responsibilities include:
- Execute, analyze, and interpret experiments to support research activities under the supervision of a mentor
- Contribute to the development of tissue-based biomarkers using histopathological methods
- Potential development of a zebra fish model for in vivo toxicity screens
- Provide histology laboratory support using automation and manual methods to stain and coverslip microscopic slides
- Perform histology procedures including IHC or special stains
- Analyze tissue specimens using the Vectra Polaris, HALO, and other technologies
- Execute immunohistochemistry or in situ hybridization including qualitative and quantitative analysis
- Practice the proficient and safe use of all equipment necessary for the completion of duties and responsibilities (i.e., tissue processor, embedding center, automated stainer and coverslipper, etc.)
- Plan details of experiments and maintain a lab notebook
- Utilize software tools to analyze and interpret data
- Contribute to group meetings and discussions and present results to the team
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Currently enrolled in university, pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Biology, Biomedical Engineering, or other related field
Must be enrolled in university for at least one semester following the internship
Expected graduation date between December 2024 - July 2025
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrate critical thinking and problem-solving skills, including analysis
Self-motivated; ability to execute with limited supervision and direction. Can work independently or part of a team
Proficient in required software including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
