About this Role: The Head Football Coach of George Washington Carver High School is responsible for the overall vision, strategy, and direction of the high school football program. In addition to coaching responsibilities, this teammate will also be a full-time teacher and teammate on campus. As a leader both on and off the field, the Head Coach will align the football program to reflect the mission of the school and its core values. The Head Coach will instill a high level of appreciation for the discipline related to the game of football while highlighting the importance of teamwork, determination, and achievement. The ideal candidate will excel at building strong relationships with all stakeholders involved in the football program and George Washington Carver community.

Please note:

  • Per Louisiana High School Athletic Association guidelines, all head Football Coaches must also be full-time teachers. According to LHSAA rules, full-time teaching is 3 periods at CA. Therefore, this role is contingent upon also being hired in a full-time teaching position at George Washington Carver.
  • Start date for the role is flexible.

Coaching Responsibilities:

  • Hire, develop, and lead a coaching staff that will execute rigorous, disciplined practices to effectively develop individual players and execution of team-wide strategy in games.
  • Lead and manage the team and coaches during games, both directly and indirectly in a manner consistent with school values while aiming for wins and start-to-finish competitiveness.
  • Foster a culture of academic and athletic excellence among players that helps scholars develop soft skills that will transfer from the field to classrooms, college, and careers.
  • Manage the external image of the team amongst parents, alumni, and the media to further the narrative of the school and its athletic programs.
  • Manage relationships with outside programs and individuals to: attract future scholars, maintain sportsmanship among competing teams, and shape opportunities for athletes to access college and scholarship opportunities beyond high school.
  • Work closely with school team members and parents to support the safety, welfare, and development of players.
  • Maintain accurate and compliant records for all players and coaches that meet LHSAA standards.
  • Organize, plan, and schedule a year-long program of skill and strength development for student-athletes and consistently monitor performance
  • Collaborate with the Athletic Director to manage, maintain, grow, and leverage available resources (e.g. budget, uniforms, equipment, field spaces, etc.


Teaching Responsibilities:


  • Engagement and Set College Ready Bar Standard
  • Bring passion, joy, and energy to your lesson plan execution making sure scholars reflect the level of passion and excitement.
  • Support and build relationships with scholars while setting a high standard for their academic achievement to prepare scholars for college success.
  • Integrate and leverage a classroom narrative through CA’s system of positive behavioral support. Give positive and constructive feedback to scholars following the school's core value while incorporating Restorative Approaches.
  • Interventions and Supports to Meet the Needs of All Scholars
  • Execute strong Tier 1 and Tier 2 interventions within the Response To Intervention (RTI) framework to ensure every child can master the material in classroom settings.
  • Collaborate with Case Managers, the school-based Director of Intervention, and the Intervention Compliance Coordinator to ensure that all scholars with IEPs and 504s are on track to reach their goals


Teamwork that Drives the Success of our Whole School

  • Actively participate in all team meetings including but not limited to: our daily Morning Meeting, Weekly Grade Level and/or Department meetings, Friday Professional Development, Network Wide Data Days on a quarterly basis, and Monthly Professional Learning Community meetings.
  • Constantly look across the school and ask yourself, “how can our school be better tomorrow?”

  • Strong knowledge in the content area of choice, demonstrated through lesson planning, execution, and intervention with all scholars.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Required)
  • Previous Coaching Experience (Required)
